D.J. Bishop
I am a licensed professional counselor and a licensed addiction counselor who specializes in:
Trauma - I work with people who have experienced long term childhood or acute trauma, and suffer from ongoing PTSD, anxiety and/or depression, to help them heal.
Substance abuse recovery - Guiding people with addiction and their families through the recovery process, I use 12-step facilitation and other modalities to help addicts build the resources they need for sobriety.
LGBTQ+ affirmative therapy - I help people who identify as LGBTQ+, and those who are grappling with their sexual identity, embody their true self and connect with affirmative communities.
Large life transitions - Walking with people through overwhelming life experiences, I guide them through the grieving and recovery process, moving out of isolation and into integration and connection.
I use the following forms of experiential, embodied and talk therapy to support my clients through their healing journey:
Brainspotting
EMDR
Role play
Art
12-step facilitation
Mindfulness in recovery
I work with young adults and adults who may be struggling with aspects of sexuality, addiction, trauma/ptsd, anxiety, and depression. Together we reconnect, nurture, and exercise inherent strengths through the cultivation of coping skills, action methods, and community resources.
I am also starting the "Men's Connection Project." It's a closed in-person therapy group of 8-10 men coming together to share their stories, process painful life experiences, and empower each other to build the lives they want through experiential therapy methods.
