Clinical Social Work/Therapist
San Francisco, CA

Jessica C. Lief, MSW, LCSW, MLS Speciality: Eating Disorders, Body Image, Borderline Personality Disorder, Self-Harm, Substance Use LCSW and Psychotherapist Jessica C. Lief, LCSW is a licensed clinical social worker and psychotherapist who specializes in the treatment of eating disorders, body image, Borderline Personality Disorder, self-harm, and substance use. Jessica completed psychoanalytic training through the William Alanson White Institute of Psychiatry, Psychoanalysis, and Psychology in the Eating Disorders, Compulsions, and Addictions (EDCAS) Program. She also completed the advanced clinical supervision training program through Smith College School for Social Work. Her approach is primarily psychodynamic but combines aspects of self-psychology, feminist/womanist theories, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Seeking Safety, mindful self-compassion, and mindfulness. She is particularly interested in the treatment of eating disorders as a social justice issue, as they relate to people of color and the LGBTQ+ community. She is also adept at treating individuals diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder. Her grief and loss work is broad but focuses on motherless daughters, maternal grief and wounding, and emotional abandonment. Jessica also works with individuals who have experienced miscarriage, fertility-related issues, post-partum depression, anxiety, and psychosis, as well as post-partum PTSD. She also works with individuals undergoing IVF and who have struggled with women’s health issues, such as Endometriosis and PCOS, as well as individuals who are pregnant and struggling with an eating disorder. Jessica’s favorite part of being a therapist is guiding each client in their transformation and witnessing each step as it is achieved. Jessica will work with the client to identify what is deeply meaningful and important in that person’s life. The client will develop concrete skills to get their needs met directly. Jessica will help the client to develop powerful, inner resources, including self-compassion, emotion regulation techniques, radical self-acceptance, and confidence. Jessica earned her undergraduate degree from Sarah Lawrence College with a concentration in literature, nonfiction writing, and French. She earned a master’s degree in Advanced Clinical Practice in Social Work from New York University. She also earned a Master of Studies in Law with a concentration in Health Law with high honors from UC Law San Francisco. Currently, she is enrolled in a doctorate in social work program through Simmons University. LCSW# 87286 “Jessica’s style has been described as nurturing, empathetic, and empowering. She is direct, authentic and will never blame you for your suffering. She enjoys using humor in psychotherapy.”

From a young age, I’ve always been curious about people and their experiences. I’ve always felt naturally connected to others and interested in understanding what people think, feel, and experience. After having both positive and negative experiences with therapists in high school, I became confident that this was what I wanted to do—and what I felt called to do. I will be fully present with you and actively listen to what you’re sharing, while asking clarifying questions when needed. I may reflect back or summarize what I’m hearing and check in to see if I’m understanding you accurately or if there’s something I’ve missed. I also want to learn directly from you: What helps you feel heard and understood? What tends to make you feel misunderstood? And how might I recognize that you’re feeling misunderstood, even if you don’t say so directly? I want to understand what that looks like for you specifically. I see therapy as a collaborative process. I’m walking alongside you, not in front of you or above you. I may not always have all the answers, but I’m committed to working with you to figure things out. Trust and a strong therapeutic relationship take time, and I won’t rush that process or pressure you to share something before you’re ready. I’ll consider your individual experiences, preferences, interests, and what feels comfortable for you. Most importantly, I believe trust comes from consistency—doing what I say I’ll do, keeping my commitments, and if I make a mistake, acknowledging it, apologizing, and working with you to repair it. I’m a big animal lover, and I always enjoy hearing about clients’ pets and the impact they have on each other’s lives.

I'm an integrative therapist, which means I pull from several different theoretical orientations. I utilize elements of humanistic, psycho-dynamic, attachment theory, and family systems. As an integrative therapist, I view each of my clients as an individual rather than a diagnosis. My style is direct, warm, and collaborative. I believe in the importance of the therapeutic alliance between therapist and client. The relationship that emerges between therapist and client is a powerful healing tool. I bring safety, empowerment, compassion, and a non-judgmental atmosphere to the therapeutic process, which allows you to explore all parts of yourself within a safe container.

I currently have limited availability; please reach out to inquire of openings (as of 06/17/2026). Growing up Asian American in San Francisco, I had the privilege of feeling like “the majority” rather than feeling like “the minority.” When my mental health took a turn in my teen years, I was fortunate to have an Asian school-based therapist who reminded me of a “cool Asian aunt.” I remember feeling at ease seeing someone who looked like me in a space I thought was only meant for white people or people who were “that crazy.” This therapist showed me that therapy could be warm, kind, and even involve the humor I needed to say the hard stuff. She showed me that people like us could receive support and care through a listening ear. (I thought the only kind of care Asian elders gave was via cut fruit.) Years later, I hope to share this same safe experience as the person now sitting in the therapist’s chair. Whether you are living out your parents’ dreams or just trying to make it through the week, I can help you explore whether your path aligns with your values and supports your growth. I promise I won’t sass you the way my former Asian auntie-like therapist might, but I’ll make sure we keep it light where it needs to be, and hold space where it’s dark. We will discover who you are and what you need, with the utmost care (and a dash of humor, because therapy is hard enough as it is).

Hello! I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and am taking on new clients. I love working with young adults because the changes we make early in life can have a lasting impact. Stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, friendships, figuring out who we are and how we want to move through life, navigating transitions, processing trauma - it can be incredibly difficult to hold space for these aspects of being human, and therapy offers a place where we can figure out how to live our most authentic, genuine life while feeling in control of that which often feels out of control.

Marriage & Family Therapist
Pinole, CA

Hey, I'm Jacky! I work with adults who are facing challenges like family issues, relationships, cultural identity, and personal growth. My approach combines practical therapy techniques with an understanding of how unconscious thoughts and feelings shape our lives. Together, we’ll create a safe space where you can explore yourself, gain new insights, and make decisions that feel true to who you are. My own experiences navigating life and culture shape my work, so I understand how hard it can be to balance family expectations, relationships, and personal goals—especially when you're also figuring out your identity. I often wish I had someone who could relate to my struggles, which is why I'm passionate about creating a space where you can truly feel heard. I'm here to help you get in touch with your true self, make decisions that reflect your values, and live a life that feels genuine. If you're ready to take that step, I’d be excited to see if we’re a good fit to work together.
