Therapists for college students near Atlanta, GA
I help people who are feeling overwhelmed get back on track. I assist young adults anxious about work or life and who need support and tools to move ahead. Clients of all ages may be going through challenges or life transitions that show up as anxiety or depression or just feeling stuck. I also work with individuals and couples who are stuck in relationship patterns that no longer work for them. I’m knowledgeable about a variety of techniques such as cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) and mindfulness-based therapy, but I use a variety of approaches to helping my clients. As you might expect from my location in the heart of Atlanta, my clients are a diverse group of men and women. I strive to be an anti-racist therapist responsive to the needs of Black clients and other people of color. As a gay man I strongly support empowerment of women. LGBTQ concerns are a special focus of mine; you have the right to expect your therapist to be comfortable and knowledgeable about your concerns. I’ve been in private practice in Atlanta for more than 30 years. I work out of comfortable and tranquil home office in the Virginia-Highland neighborhood. (I also offer video sessions if that’s more convenient.) My clients find me engaged, supportive and nonjudgmental. Whether you’ve made use of counseling and therapy before or are seeking a counselor for the first time, I welcome questions you might have about working together.
You have been trying to do the right things in your relationships but it seems like everything you do either backfires or results in the same conflict. This leaves you anxious and feeling as though there is no hope in your family, social or love life. You have the suspicion that past childhood trauma or previous feelings of abandonment are impacting your current romantic relationships. You may have explored your attachment style and want to get a handle on how to not let your past impact your future. Maybe you are someone who gets along well in your relationships - perhaps, too well because you aren’t implementing healthy boundaries. You’re drained but don’t know how to get out of the cycle because everyone now expects for you to be the “strong” friend, or adult child. Perhaps you are someone who is going through the difficult transition into separation, divorce, and or coparenting. You might even be experiencing one or any combination of the things above, and find yourself over relying on coping skills like emotional eating, drinking, using substances, etc. that are counterproductive.

About me: I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with 20 years of experience working in the mental health field. I have a very curious mind and a genuine interest in understanding what drives people. I am also a great listener. I am person-centered therapist by nature, taking a strength-based approach to therapy. I enjoy working with individuals, ages 18 and up. Human life is full of distractions and failures, and treatment, either psychological or physical, is likewise. We will have moments of perceived failure and distractions. That is OK…. new ways of thinking take time and practice. A trusting relationship between client and therapist is the most important factor in therapeutic success. I work hard to earn and keep your trust. I operate from a positive psychotherapy framework and provide a warm, compassionate, and non-judgmental, safe place. I build this safe place so you can explore your concerns, learn about what is preventing you from living the life you want, or search for your preferred future. My counseling style is kind, caring, and built on relationships. I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and non-judgment. Admitting to yourself that you can not do everything alone and reaching out to a professional for help are the first steps towards living your preferred future. The way in which we live is greatly influenced by how we see the world. Asking for help, and getting a new perspective is often the most profound step towards your preferred future. The more support you gain, the more able you will be to heal and grow. Therapy is an investment in yourself and is ALL ABOUT YOU. I am part of the Path referral network, which means that when you reach out, my team will get back to you quickly to schedule our first session. Through Path, I am in-network for most commercial insurances, and the average cost of a session for clients who use their insurance is less than $30.

Hi, I'm glad you are reaching out for help and to begin the process of self-discovery. Due to COVID, I'm currently providing only telehealth sessions. We can all encounter barriers — often these are out of our awareness — that prevent us from thriving in our careers and in relationships. I believe the therapeutic relationship offers a unique opportunity in the here-and-now to increase our self-awareness and understand the influence of the past on our present behavior. I work collaboratively, empathically and creatively to help you get “unstuck” and to foster meaningful, lasting change in your inner world and in your relationships with others. Over the years, I have worked with people who are experiencing challenges related to college, work, intimate relationships, identity (cultural, racial, sexual, gender, class – and intersections of these), trauma, grief, adjustments or transitions, anxiety and depression. I have worked for many years with graduate and undergraduate students.
I work with anxiety and or depression triggered by single event trauma or complex trauma over time- trauma being any distressing situation where we feel helpless and powerless- These effects can create enduring shadows that stretch across our lives. Disconnected from ourselves and others, and detached from those we want to attach, we begin to think we are that disconnection itself, and it is too painful to be with ourselves or feel our feelings. We end up living in an unbalanced, reactive state of anxiety-or stuck in a freeze state of depression or shut-down. Wounding causes us to live from a defended and limited place of grief and anxieties, seeking any way to avoid and relieve pain. Therapy is the reparative process of healing in relationship and again living from our true authentic self with adaptability, resilience, and creativity. We work together to rebalance the nervous system, increase your ability to be embodied and be in relationship, and experience more completeness, joy, and connection. Work with me to regain your sense of self and feelings of connectedness and empowerment.

Welcome! My name is Joseé Muldrew. I am a proud Spelman Alumna and a graduate of Boston University. I'm passionate about helping college student and communities of color uncover their truths by identifying and processing the various life experiences that may have skewed and muddied their world view. I believe that every person deserves to experience unconditional love and self-acceptance, and that starts from within. As a therapist, I view myself as an advocate and supporter who walks alongside you on your journey. I hold up a figurative mirror that allows you to see everything that you are, while equipping you with the necessary tools to navigate life transitions, depression, anxiety, trauma, racial identity issues, and attachment issues, among other concerns. Individual therapy is a powerful, yet challenging process that requires trust and safety within the therapeutic relationship. I work to build a healthy rapport with my clients that empowers them to share their story and experience the healing they desire in a nonjudgmental environment. Through our work, you will move out of past limiting beliefs that have kept you stuck into new and adaptive ways of behaving and thinking that promote growth.

I specialize in helping high performers thrive in a fast-paced, uncertain, ever-changing world.
I have been in practice for over 20 years and enjoy working with graduate and undergraduate students. Many of my student clients have been interested in reducing anxiety or depression symptoms, working through family, friendship or relationship issues, or simply having a safe place to talk with someone outside of their support circle about a current transition or struggle.

As a counselor my goal is to help people find inner peace, fulfillment, and purpose in their lives. I earned my B.S. in Psychology from Georgia Gwinnett College (2017), and my M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Richmont Graduate University (2019). I welcome individuals or couples of any gender, race, ethnicity, religion, background, and sexual orientation. I am also comfortable integrating your religious beliefs into your therapeutic process, if you desire.
As a neurdivergent therapist with ADHD, I understand feeling a little different—creative, scattered, sensitive, or like you don’t quite fit into the usual boxes. I want to help you to feel more grounded, to understand yourself better, & to move through life with more ease and confidence. In therapy, we’ll work together to make sense of what’s been overwhelming you, reconnect with your strengths, & create space for balance, meaning, and self-acceptance in your daily life. In our sessions, you can expect warmth, curiosity, and collaboration. I believe therapy works best when it feels like a genuine conversation.
