My education includes a Bachelor’s in Social Work from Providence College and a Master's in Social Work from Rhode Island College. I pride myself on letting you decide which issues are most important while providing some guidance to find your own answers. If balancing academic/work pressure and your personal life is leaving you feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or burned out, I am here to help. Many clients I work with enter therapy feeling stuck in cycles of overthinking, self-doubt, people-pleasing, or pushing themselves at the expense of their well-being. Perfectionism and self-criticism often make it even harder to slow down or feel satisfied. I specialize in therapy with college/graduate students and young professionals struggling with anxiety, perfectionism, early career stress, relationship concerns, and life transitions. I also work with survivors of sexual trauma and individuals who want to better understand how past experiences continue to shape their emotions, relationships, and sense of self. My approach is warm, collaborative, and values-focused. After working together, my clients often have greater self-confidence, increased insight into how past experiences shape current patterns, and a more compassionate relationship with themselves. I integrate psychodynamic therapy with evidence-based behavioral approaches such as CBT, ACT, and DBT, along with emotion-focused, self-compassion, and strengths-based perspectives. We'll explore practical tools to move forward from unhelpful patterns so that you can live more authentically. I am here to support you in understanding yourself with greater insight and compassion, easing anxiety’s influence on your wellbeing, and building a life that reflects your values rather than fear or pressure. I offer telehealth therapy for busy academic and professional lives. If this sounds like you, I invite you to explore my website and reach out for a consultation. I see clients in Massachusetts, New York, New Hampshire, and Colorado. I am also PSYPACT authorized to see clients in 40 additional states. *Note: I am in-network with several insurances in Massachusetts and Colorado, and I am out-of-network in New York, New Hampshire, and in PSYPACT states. I provide a superbill for my clients to request reimbursement from their insurance. Please reach out with any questions; I'm happy to work with you to keep therapy affordable.

It’s common to show up feeling like you’re managing on the outside but overwhelmed internally by anxiety, stress, or self-doubt. My goal is to create a steady space where we can slow things down, make sense of what’s happening beneath the surface, and build coping tools that feel realistic and usable beyond session.
I create a safe space for you to explore who you are, your experiences in life, and what you would like to become or experience, by providing a non-judgmental, respectful, calm, stable, and positive atmosphere as your counselor. I will encourage and guide you to be your authentic self. The populations I specialize in counseling include people who identify within the broad spectrums of sexual orientation and gender identity and expression (and their loved ones), persons living with HIV, social justice & civil rights workers, and polyamorous folks & others in non-traditional, open, and/or kink relationships. I have experience working with clients with anxiety, depression, trauma, low self-esteem, and those who are going through life changes. I also enjoy teaching life and coping skills, assertive communication, boundary setting, mindfulness, and doing relationship counseling, career counseling, and life coaching. Sessions are video telehealth only, and are $100 for 45-minute sessions.
Hey there! You might be here because you or your teen are facing a major transition and feeling unsure how to navigate it with confidence. Big transitions can feel overwhelming, especially when you’re carrying pressure, self-doubt, or uncertainty about what’s next. When painful things happen in our lives, we do our best to cope with it in the moment. That might mean we get really good at “just dealing with it,” and “toughing it out.” Maybe we get really good at “checking out,” or maybe we become super skilled at coming up with clever ways to altogether avoid triggering situations. At one point in time, these skills served you well. And maybe they don’t any longer. Often, underneath these patterns anxiety and depression flood every day, drowning out our resources and making life difficult to enjoy. But changing these patterns and finding new hope can seem like an impossible feat. So often we know something is off because of what we feel in our bodies. Your heart starts pounding, that turning in your stomach, breathing feels tight, maybe you feel disconnected. The key to finding relief is not just about thinking differently. I am a Registered Dance/Movement Therapist and offer body-based techniques for approaching these issues. When we can tune into our bodies as well as our thoughts, we can begin to take control of our lives. I believe that you ultimately know what’s best for your own life. Sometimes it can feel scary to start therapy. What I usually tell my clients is “you’re in the driver’s seat.” I’m the copilot and have a map, and can point things out that maybe you didn’t see from your vantage point. Let’s figure this out together. Call or email for a free consultation.
I work with clients who feel stuck, burned out, or disconnected from themselves and are ready to look at what's not working in their lives. My style is warm, collaborative, and practical…over time, clients feel more grounded, self-compassionate, and in control of the choices that shape their daily lives.
For over 20 years I have worked with teens and young adults as they navigate through life's challenges and transitions. Depression, anxiety, relationship issues or unhelpful thinking patterns can get in the way of living the life we imagine. I enjoy working with clients in a safe, non-judgemental space, where we can identify roadblocks and create a plan that works and allows you to live a fully engaged life!
Welcome to Unspoken Roots Psychotherapy! My name is Edward Chan, and I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and founder of Unspoken Roots Psychotherapy. I specialize in supporting Asian American college students and young adults as they navigate the unique challenges that can come from balancing personal goals, family expectations, cultural values, and the pressures of academic and professional success. Many Asian American students grow up carrying messages about achievement, responsibility, sacrifice, and making their families proud. While these values can be sources of strength, they can also contribute to anxiety, perfectionism, self-criticism, burnout, difficulty setting boundaries, and a persistent feeling of never being "good enough." You may find yourself succeeding on paper while privately struggling with stress, loneliness, imposter syndrome, or uncertainty about who you are beyond what you accomplish. Therapy offers a space to slow down and explore these experiences without judgment. Together, we can better understand the influences that have shaped you, process the challenges you're facing, and develop practical tools to manage anxiety, build self-confidence, strengthen relationships, and create a life that feels aligned with your own values—not just the expectations placed upon you. My approach integrates evidence-based therapies including CBT, ACT, DBT, and insight-oriented therapy while remaining sensitive to the cultural, familial, and identity-related experiences that many Asian American students navigate. Whether you're struggling with academic pressure, family dynamics, relationships, career decisions, or your sense of belonging, you don't have to carry it alone. At Unspoken Roots Psychotherapy, I strive to create a space where the experiences that often go unspoken can be explored openly, helping you cultivate greater self-understanding, balance, and fulfillment as you navigate college and beyond.
I offer both psychotherapy and neuropsychological evaluations in my practice. In therapy, I work with college students who are experiencing distress related to anxiety, depression, disconnection in relationships, attention difficulties, and learning disabilities. I strive to recognize each individual client's strengths as we also pinpoint effective strategies to increase overall life satisfaction. As a neuropsychological evaluator, I specialize in the identification of learning disorders, attention difficulties, anxiety, and autism spectrum disorders.
As a therapist, I provide a safe and affirming space for individuals to explore their identities, heal from trauma, and build resilience. Throughout my career, I have worked with immigrants, refugees, Black, Indigenous, People of Color, and LGBTQ+ community. I value the culture, identity, and lived experiences of the individuals that I work with. By understanding the unique challenges faced by these communities, I tailor my approaches to meet the specific needs of each client. I have an integrated approach to therapy. I enjoy integrating creativity and artistic expression in the therapeutic process. My practice has focused on trauma-informed care, liberation, and cultural competence. I recognize the importance of understanding and respecting the cultural backgrounds and experiences of my clients. I encourage clients to express their needs, set goals, and take charge of their healing journey to foster empowerment.
