As a clinical psychologist, I assist clients to address issues that are difficult to confront alone. I encourage self-reflection, help clients gain a clearer understanding of their life experiences and bring awareness to patterns of relating that are interfering with living a satisfying life. My orientation is primarily psychodynamic; it promotes self-exploration and gaining insight, along with productive behavior change. I take an active and engaged role with my clients by asking questions and offering ideas. I approach therapy as a collaborative process with the intention of reducing suffering, increasing self-understanding, and cultivating deeper and more compassionate relationships. I specialize in addressing chronic trauma, depression, anxiety, life transitions, loss, and relationship difficulties.

Are you experiencing anxiety, depression, relationship problems or an Eating Disorder? Stopping the repetition of dysfunctional behavior patterns can help you fulfill your life dreams personally, professionally and relationally. My patients and I work collaboratively to explore the roots of their symptoms and develop better coping strategies along the way. I am an interactive and relational therapist. I offer Individual, Couples & Group psychotherapy. Life transitions can be complicated and difficult. Whether the transition is to a change in relationship status, new city, new job, or new school, it is helpful to have a safe, private space to process overwhelming emotions that invariably arise. I see patients over zoom as well as face to face indoors and in an Outdoor Covid Compliant Office space. I am certified in Animal Assisted Therapy. "Henry Freud" is a calm, gentle, affectionate Black Lab who is eager to be part of your healing process. He is happy to offer therapeutic comfort: snuggles, kisses, floor play, secured privacy and/or bring you tissues. Lumin Health is a psychiatrist-led mental health organizations serving young adults who feel stuck with depression and anxiety despite efforts with traditional methods. We provide two evidence-based options: esketamine (Spravato) — an FDA-approved, insurance-covered treatment — and ketamine therapy delivered in a carefully monitored setting. Each session happens in a private room with vitals tracked, standard two-hour observation, and a ride-home requirement to keep you safe. You set the pace; our team provides steadiness. Access matters, especially for students and early-career adults. Spravato treatment is insurance-covered at Lumin Health; we accept Medicare and most major plans in Massachusetts (Aetna, Anthem, BCBS, Cigna, Evernorth, Harvard Pilgrim, Optum, Point32Health, Tufts, United Healthcare). Our team handles prior authorizations and coordination so you’re not navigating forms between classes or shifts. Out-of-pocket costs typically range from $10 to $25, which is meaningful when the treatment typically costs $500+. Care is local and predictable: clinics in Woburn, Brookline, Newton, and Cambridge Massachusetts, flexible scheduling, and collaborative communication with your current therapist or prescriber. That structure helps ketamine treatment fit real life — exams, internships, family demands — rather than the other way around. Many young adults describe ketamine for depression as creating a window where rumination eases and possibilities feel closer. Spravato and ketamine treatment don’t cure depression, but they may offer rapid relief for some and a safer way to do deeper work with psychotherapy or behavioral support. What matters most is what feels possible to you now. If you’re exploring ketamine therapy or Spravato, Lumin Health will meet you with clarity, agency, and insurance-savvy support.
My therapeutic approach is rooted in the belief that creativity is a powerful tool for self-expression and healing. I strive to create a safe and non-judgmental space where individuals can explore their emotions, break through barriers, and tap into their inner strength. Every person is unique, and my goal is to tailor my therapeutic techniques to meet the specific needs and preferences of each client. Expressive art therapy provides an alternative form of communication, particularly beneficial when traditional verbal expression may feel limiting. Artistic expression allows for the articulation of emotions, experiences, and narratives that may be challenging to express through words alone. The focus is on the process of creation rather than the end result, allowing for a more profound and authentic exploration of emotions.
Libby Flavin, MSW, LCSW is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker at Van Dusen Nutrition®. Libby currently works full-time in the Needham office and sees clients for individual in person and virtual psychotherapy sessions. Libby’s mission is to provide a safe space for individuals to reclaim the aspects of their lives that an eating disorder has taken away from them. Her approach is authentic, non-judgmental, and honest. Libby believes in full recovery and that by trusting the process and bettering relationships with self and others, it is possible. Libby received a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Sciences with a minor in Psychology from the University of Rhode Island. She then completed her MSW at Boston College, specializing in mental health. Libby’s clinical internships consisted of in-home therapy services, academic counseling, and eating disorders at both the partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient levels of care. Following her graduation from Boston College, Libby then went on to continue developing her skills in the treatment of eating disorders at Walden Behavioral Care in Braintree, MA where she ran group therapy, meal monitoring, and provided individual and family therapy to adolescents and young adults. “I don’t want to feel like this any longer.” Or “I just want to feel better about myself and my life.” Many of my clients will say something like this. They feel stuck. Anxieties, sadness, pain and the fears of not being good enough only grow. They can point to many good things in their lives but somehow feeling fulfilled and happier isn’t happening. Feeling ashamed to admit even to themselves or others about how hard things are while self-doubt is settling in. Perfectionism, self-criticism and imposter syndrome can tear you down inside even if no one else knows it. Work, school and relationships require energy that is harder to find. The need to present well can be exhausting and at times even destructive. You may try to remind yourself to feel grateful or more positive but sometimes even that reinforces a feeling of shame that your life feels so difficult. The idea of showing up for yourself starts to feel impossible; connecting with friends, family or a partner feels difficult or simply out of reach. Sadness can show up as anger or withdrawing from activities you once enjoyed and withdrawing from people who care about you. As the need to numb yourself grows, alcohol or other addictive patterns may increase. Anxiety, sadness, shame, medical or physical trauma, perinatal challenges, perfectionism and self-criticism, bullying or pain from childhood and family issues, relationship patterns you want to change, sports performance injuries or difficulties, negative thoughts and feelings about yourself and low self-esteem can all have origins in trauma. Trauma may not be the word that is used. Sometimes we think traumatic experiences must be extremely dramatic but actually trauma is experienced by all of us at different times in our lives. Trauma is really anything in our past that is difficult to think about or feel, draining us emotionally. Having a stronger sense of yourself will allow you to respond to challenges with more freedom, as well as direct your life with goals and purpose. If you want to let go of stuff from your past but aren’t sure of how to move forward, I can help.
