Therapy with horses at Horse Sense is about being able to create and maintain a connected relationship. Our therapy utilizes both the physiology and psychology of the horse to heal the physiology and psychology of the human. This experiential therapy gets beyond simply talking about challenges and instead participants learn by doing, often reaching positive change more quickly than through traditional therapy approaches.
I love working with adults (age 18 and up) on anxiety, depression, relationship stress, grief, and body image issues. I enjoy educating clients about attachment theory and helping people learn how to cope when their attachment styles are triggered. I have been a therapist since 2017 and bring a lot of experience to my practice. I am very warm and funny, but can be direct when it is appropriate. My goal is to help clients learn in session, so I do provide feedback. I like teaching clients about boundaries and how to effectively communicate them.
As a warm and person-centered therapist, I believe in partnership with a client to meet them where they are and work towards their goals together. Life can be hard and circumstances can feel heavy, but you've made the first (and often hardest) step to lightening the load and achieving your goals. I specialize in depression, anxiety, mood disorders, and navigating life stressors, as well as other mental and behavioral concerns. I utilize a blended strength-based treatment approach, using but not limited to: cognitive behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy, motivational interviewing, and behavior modification.
While life’s challenges are inevitable, our suffering doesn’t have to be. I am here to empower you to take on these challenges with confidence! I work with children, teens, & young adults struggling with stress, anxiety, self-esteem, life transitions, emotional regulation, familial issues, ADHD, & more. My experience as a former school counselor provides a unique perspective of the daily struggles of today’s youth and I am passionate about helping families work together to set their children up for success. I also enjoy working with young adults as they begin to figure out who they are while transitioning into a more independent individual. My work with clients is rooted in CBT, with a person-centered and holistic approach and includes principles of mindfulness to help empower clients to feel in control of their own mind and unlearn patterns that prevent you from living life to the fullest. I am a firm believer that we can harness the power of our own minds and use its strengths for good. I strive to bring a warm, empathetic energy to sessions and allow individuals to feel welcome and accepted exactly as they are, providing a sense of validation, comfort, and trust. All while also helping you to uncover compassion for yourself. Together, we will work as a team to discover your strengths and find peace in the chaos!

As social beings, people need the contact and acceptance of other people. It is not uncommon for people to experience things that disrupt or unravel their lives, and they feel they have no one to turn to who understands or accepts them. Whether this experience is anxiety, depression, stress, life changes, or trauma, my passion is to help individuals find healthy ways of coping and processing the events in their lives. As well as helping people connect with others in more meaningful ways. As everyone is different, I feel there is no single therapeutic approach that works for everyone. Because of this, I have sought training in multiple therapeutic modalities such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). My educational background includes an M.Ed. in Mental Health Counseling from Florida Atlantic University. My Clinical internship was spent in a substance abuse/mental health facility in South Florida, where I worked with military and veteran clients. Before my degree, I enlisted in the United States Airforce and was trained as a Medical Technician/EMT.
I have been a practicing psychologist in Boone, NC for almost 20 years. I have worked with college students in various capacities throughout most of my career. Therapy is like taking a class on yourself. You are the expert on you. My goal is to hold a safe, comfortable space for you to feel heard and seen and to know that your feelings are valid. I believe you/we all innately have the strength and ability to endure, overcome, heal and grow. I want to help instill confidence and motivation to support your on journey. To help you feel grounded and find ways to tap into your inner strength. By gaining insight into the connection between your thoughts, feelings and behaviors you will be able to improve you mental health and reach your behavioral goals. Together we will identify goals and create a plan to achieve them. In therapy you will learn coping skills and strategies to navigate difficult situations and emotions. At times this means processing through past events, current experiences and traumas. Other times, there is a need to focus on tangible action-oriented goals. To learn concrete strategies to manage the demands of life, cope with stress and regulate mood. Perhaps this is even a time to challenge yourself as you are growing and becoming the version of yourself you hope to be. Transitioning into school as a freshman, as well as into your post graduate life, can be hard to navigate. You are faced with various demands: academic, social, financial and otherwise. I take a multi-systemic approach to treatment to ensure you are fully utilizing resources and supports (on campus and in the community) that may help you along. My areas of expertise include but are not limited to: anxiety and panic; depression, bipolar disorders and mood dysregulation; substance use and abuse; assessment, treatment and management of adult ADHD; grief; management of chronic medical conditions that are co-morbid to mental health issues; developmental transitions; college student wellness. I take an eclectic approach to therapeutic interventions built on the foundation of a strong therapeutic alliance. Using a strengths based, multi-systemic and holistic approach; I draw from interventions such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness based stress reduction (MBSR), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and motivational interviewing (MI).
Hi there! My name is Sienna, and I am an LCMHCA in NC. I graduated from East Carolina University in 2025 with a Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, with an emphasis in addiction. I also graduated from Appalachian State in 2023 with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, concentrating in Human Services. I believe therapy is a space where you can come exactly as you are. I do not believe in a one-size-fits-all mentality, meaning each session is tailored specifically to you. Most of my experience comes from working with the neurodivergent community as well as students and young adults. I have experience working with anxiety, depression, OCD, interpersonal conflict, substance use, trauma, and PTSD. I also use an eclectic approach that is person-centered and incorporates ACT, CBT, DBT, and mindfulness. Currently I am seeing clients via telehealth in NC.
From the beginning, Carolinas Counseling Group has been committed to combining clinical expertise & current psychological research with the timeless wisdom of a Christian worldview. We commit that we will do all we can to help you feel welcome and free from any pressure to believe like we do. It is our goal for you to feel safe from critical judgment. Much of the time we feel we should have it all together. We have to know who we are, have a career path, a life plan, walk the straight and narrow. But you may feel you are standing on the edge of a cliff and fear jumping into an abyss. Or your path is filled with roadblocks. You may feel unfulfilled by the path you started but afraid to be different, or make a change. Traumatic events out of your control may be keeping you from feeling whole, feeling yourself, feeling worthy. Or the stresses, unpredictability, and injustices of life just wane on you. You seek a place to process, grow, and be your whole self. I provide an environment of cultural humility with culturally, spiritually, and trauma responsive therapy. I meet you where you are and work with you to understand where you want to go, who you are now and who you want to be, how you feel now and how you want to feel. I am direct but compassionate and encouraging. If you are ready to take a step towards healing, personal growth, making a change, or just need a safe place to process daily life, my door is open. You don’t have to have it all together, or be walking the straight and narrow. You are welcome, just as you are. We will navigate whatever path or road you seek together.
Carolina Counseling currently has two therapists that use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help individuals understand how their feelings, thoughts and behaviors are all connected. They both listen without judging and offer a safe place where you can come and share whatever is needed. One therapist offers a Christian perspective if desired.
Connection to self and others is my priority. If you feel past events in relationships with family, friends, or partners have created fear and insecurity in your current relationships, or you notice that you don't feel like yourself due to anxiety or depression that may be connected to difficult events in your life, we can explore ways to move through these events and feel ready to grow and develop your personal resilience as well as strengthen your ability to trust and connect with others.

Life is tough! I recognize and understand that sometimes life knocks us down or throws us a curve ball. Every now and then it can make it hard to get out of bed, ignoring our everyday responsibilities. Sometimes it can make us very anxious, worrying all the time if the decisions we’re making are the right ones. Making difficult transitions in life (i.e. what college to go to, what job to accept and am I in the right relationship) can be stressful. Therapy is a great opportunity to gain a new perspective, to increase self-esteem and to feel more confident in the decisions we are making, re-framing those automatic negative thoughts.

Maybe you have experienced a major life transition and you're working on processing and adjusting to this new stage of life? Or are you navigating reshaping and discovering your identity? I can be an empathetic supporter in your journey. We can collaborate on a treatment plan to help you to reach your goals. I work from a humanistic framework, utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and eclectic skills. Let's process, grow, gain self-compassion, self-reflect, learn skills, and find more balance and peace together. Let's be curious about the source of your pain. I'd be honored to be a small part of your life's journey.
