My approach relies on a warm and trusting therapeutic relationship where we can safely engage in healing work. We will navigate the pains and challenges of today, while fostering an understanding of how the past has played a role - all while inclining toward a meaningful future. I will provide tools for immediate relief as needed to support this process. I often work with folks who are highly sensitive, feel different or misunderstood, have overwhelming emotions, struggle with relationships, have low self-esteem, are queer or questioning, or are seeking to develop identity, purpose, and meaning in life. I would love to talk to you more about how I work, hear about your goals for therapy, and answer any questions you might have. I look forward to hearing from you!

Hi, I’m Elaina, a bilingual (Spanish/English), trauma-informed therapist who works virtually with college students navigating anxiety, family stress, cultural identity, and past trauma. I’m here for students who may feel overwhelmed, disconnected, or stuck trying to manage school, relationships, and expectations, especially first-gen students, students of color, LGBTQIA+ students, and those who carry the weight of childhood or generational trauma. You don’t have to sort through it all alone. My approach is gentle, supportive, and empowering. We’ll go at your pace and focus on what matters most to you, whether that’s setting boundaries, healing from the past, or finding your voice. Therapy with me is a space where all parts of you are welcome.

I am a licensed mental health counselor specializing in working with adolescents and young adults (ages 13 and older) across various biological, psychological, and social backgrounds. My goal is to help you understand yourself within the context of your unique life experiences as you navigate mental health struggles. These may include emotional/behavioral dysregulation, communication challenges, life transitions, academic/work stress, grief/bereavement, LGBTQAI+ issues, harm reduction in substance use, and other day-to-day life stressors. The therapeutic alliance between therapist and patient is the most important part of therapy, and I am passionate about building that foundation of trust with you. Working together, you can expect an empowering, non-judgmental environment with a little sense of humor sprinkled in. I use a warm, welcoming, and person-centered approach to meet you where you’re at in your healing journey, allowing me to tailor my style and interventions to your therapeutic goals and needs. These interventions include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectal Behavior Therapy, and more structured approaches to best help you meet your therapeutic goals. My path to becoming a therapist began one week into college, when I decided to switch my major from studio art to psychology. The motivation to make this drastic change and give psychology a try came from my own intuition and feeling like I had natural qualities of empathy and introspection. This journey of self-discovery deepened my commitment to helping patients identify what a life worth living and feeling of purpose looks like for them. My journey led me to work in a community agency as a therapist, where I found that my patients’ demographics were very different from one another and, as such, deserved their own unique approaches and integrated mix of interventions. Now, I am passionate about bringing that same energy to my practice at SOL Mental Health! Outside of sessions, I like to enjoy a wide range of hobbies, such as painting, hiking, playing the ukulele, and going to live music concerts.
Going to college allows people to explore themselves, gain knowledge and meet new people. However, sometimes along the way different stressors can pop up that can get in the way of us moving forward on our path. Trying to balance school, relationships, mental health and physical health can be overwhelming. That's why it's important to speak with someone who can provide you with validation, unbiased feedback and resources to help you thrive. I work with people dealing with a variety of issues including time management, stress-reduction, processing trauma, learning coping skills to deal with anxiety/depression, etc. If any of these things are issues for you, then now may be the perfect time to start therapy and get the support you need.
Hello! I'm so glad you're taking this step for your mental health. I went to the therapy for the first time while attending college (at USC too!), and it was pivotal for me. I really value working with college students, and genuinely appreciate how much you have to do deal with. Maybe you're struggling with transitions - adjusting to the start of college, or facing the daunting landscape post-graduation. Maybe you can feel all the pressures mounting to the point where you feel paralyzed and burnt out and confused. Maybe you'd like for just one thing - anything - to be taken off your plate, or for the load to be shared somehow. Maybe you're even trying to figure yourself out beyond the story that's been your life so far. I'd like to help make things seem clearer, or kinder, or safer, and I think we can do it together. I offer 45-minute sessions, as well as longer 90-minute sessions, to fit what you might need best. I also offer letters for medical transition, disability, ESA, and can complete return to school forms.
Our Mission Statement: An Innovative Approach to Therapy Here at Tompkins Community Counseling, we tailor to your needs and will work in the environment that is best for you. Our goal is to provide you with professional, client-led, goal-based counseling, while working in whatever setting is most comfortable for you— in the community, online, or in our office. We use a Client-Led Counseling model, finding strengths that you already have and building on them to reach resolutions. We also practice a wide variety of treatment models and support you in choosing one that is a good fit for you. I am a licensed psychologist in New Jersey and New York with over 25 years of experience working with college and graduate students to improve their quality of life. I create a safe, supportive environment in which to explore what may be creating obstacles to taking control, feeling better and having more satisfying relationships. When people are in pain or feel “stuck”, this can help to empower them to make changes that lead to a healthier life. I have extensive experience working with diverse clientele who experience depression and anxiety, family and parenting issues, and grief and loss. I also address challenges around life transitions, questions of identity, chronic illness, and work stress/conflict. Certified in EMDR, I am passionate about exploring how this treatment can help individuals heal from life experiences that continue to negatively impact them. Appreciating one’s culture, family background and life experiences is essential to understand a person’s perspective and values to gain insights. I am a caring and respectful clinician who works collaboratively with clients to achieve outcomes important to them. Goals for therapy are discussed intentionally so that people achieve a greater sense of wellbeing in measurable ways. The relationship between myself and my client is a true partnership.
I am all too familiar with how so many struggles boil down to the same deep needs: to be seen, supported, understood, or safe. I help people reclaim their energy from the runaway train of their thoughts and the demands of those they care about so they can live with more focus, calm, and control. That means learning to let go of "doing it right" in favor of doing what actually works for you. By separating your sense of worth from how much you give to others, you end your people-pleasing behaviors and work on setting healthy boundaries that protect your energy without the crushing weight of guilt that usually follows. I believe there’s no one right path or set agenda we’re supposed to follow. Sometimes, the best steps we take are the ones that don’t make sense to anyone else, but that feel undeniably true to us. That’s what I help my clients find: a way forward that’s grounded, self-directed, and shaped by who they are, not who they were told to be.
I want to begin by applauding your initiative in seeking counseling services. Acknowledging the need for help and reaching out is a commendable and courageous step. It demonstrates self-awareness and a willingness to prioritize your well-being. I want to help individuals manage ADHD, Relationship and Interpersonal issues, Anxiety, Self-Esteem, Life Transitions, Stress, Burnout, and more.
I specialize in working with clients who experience anxiety or who otherwise struggle with issues such as stress about school pressures, work, decision making, future plans, body image, relationships and family. I use a variety of therapeutic approaches in addition to having interest and training in the areas of yoga, meditation, and mindful practices to assist in the healing process.
I’m a licensed psychotherapist specializing in the treatment of addiction and trauma. Much of my work has included working with adolescents, adults and families who are challenged by anxiety, depression, and other mental health issues. In addition, I have experience working with the LGTBQ community, life coaching, and eating disorders. Believing you are the expert in your life my hope is to act as a beacon of light on a path that sometimes goes dark. My success in treating clients stems from my approach which is straight forward and solution-focused to help clients move forward rather than staying stuck in their challenge areas. To my future clients: In Harry Potter, Prisoner of Azkaban, Dumbledore says ‘Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light. ‘”
