Art Therapist
New York, NY

I believe everyone is an artist. My therapy works with the creative souls in all of my clients, from dormant creatives to professional artists. Unfortunately, we all experience trauma of some kind during our lives. Traumatic experiences leave scars on our bodies and our minds that can't speak through words. However, we can listen to and understand our unspeakable pain through the creative arts. Art and creativity are the guides that lead us to healing and solace. Talk therapy is a good a way to get to know you, your coping mechanisms, and identify your goals. We go deeper with creative arts such as drawing and writing, as well as working with the body and mindfulness. Most importantly, you will experience the sense of being understood and seen in the mind and heart of a loving, attuned human being. It is my honor to work with you and witness your precious vulnerability. Much of my effort goes to provide a protective environment so we can work at your own pace and comfort level. Finding a therapist requires courage, and asking for help is a sign of strength. Call me for a free consultation and we'll figure it out together.

Starting therapy can be a challenging step, especially when seeking a therapist who genuinely understands your unique experiences and challenges. Recognizing this, I am deeply committed to empathizing with my clients and understanding their backgrounds to provide the most effective support. My name is Rhea and I am a therapist in-training at Sol Health. I am a second-year Mental Health Counseling student at Fordham University, with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Newcastle University, U.K. My journey into counseling has been profoundly shaped by my experiences as a South-Asian immigrant, inspiring my passion towards understanding each client’s identity and how it affects their mental health.  Dealing with mental health concerns can feel isolating and overwhelming. That's why I prioritize creating a safe, non-judgmental space where you can be your authentic self and feel truly heard. Building a strong therapeutic relationship is at the core of my practice. I strive to be your ally, empowering you to explore your thoughts and emotions freely, without the burden of putting on a facade. My approach integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Person-Centered Therapy, and Mindfulness-Based techniques, while also incorporating spirituality into your healing journey when appropriate. Utilizing an intersectional framework, I address the diverse identities and experiences that shape your mental health. I believe therapy is a collaborative process, where your autonomy is respected, and you actively participate in your path to healing. Together, we will uncover insights and develop strategies tailored to your unique needs and goals. My focus areas include, but are not limited to, addressing issues related to racism, college adjustment, transitional challenges, and the experiences of international students. I also support clients dealing with stress, anxiety, depression, LGBTQIA+ concerns, and relationship and family issues. I am dedicated to providing compassionate and effective care, particularly for individuals from marginalized communities, helping you overcome challenges and achieve personal growth. You don't have to face your struggles alone—I'm here to support you every step of the way. Rhea Thakur is a therapist in-training at Sol Health. Sol Health is a digital health startup that offers $30 therapy to Gen Zs by connecting them with therapists-in training accruing clinical hours.

My experience as a therapist includes working at the NYU Counseling Services for many years. I have a deep understanding of the challenges both undergraduate and graduate students face with the changes, separations and transitions involved in becoming independent adults. It is a time filled with excitement as well as stress and worries about the future. The internal and external pressures, expectations from family and demands of the academic world can feel overwhelming at times. For graduate and doctoral students, there are the stressors of completing programs, dissertations and the challenges of seeking employment. Students may also be struggling with feeling alone, isolated, anxious, depressed, dealing with body image self-esteem and sexuality issues as well as social pressures around alcohol and other substances. Therapy can help in navigating these challenges, offer insight and reduce stress. I am a compassionate, extensively trained and interactive therapist. Together, we can work to develop strategies, address negative patterns of thought and behaviors, manage stress and help you deal with relationships more effectively. I am also trained and certified in clinical hypnosis which can be very useful in managing the physical and psychological symptoms of stress and anxiety including phobias, GI issues such as IBS as well as reducing symptoms of depression while increasing self-confidence and success.

Have you experienced significant life changes recently and are having a hard time adjusting? Have you been feeling lost, lonely, isolated, anxious, or frustrated? Has serious illness entered your life or the life of a loved one, creating new challenges in adaptive coping and finding meaning in your life? Are you navigating profound grief and loss? I believe that by working together, we can identify and enhance your strengths while working on strategies that allow you to address the root causes of your difficulties and build meaningful social connections. Each person is unique and deserves a care plan designed for them. For some people, a therapist is a sounding board and place to process through life experiences with someone who is non-biased, or maybe what you're seeking is encouragement, accountability, or assistance in assessing your lived experiences. While my approach is eclectic and strengths-based, it is informed by Acceptance and Commitment therapy, narrative therapy, motivational interviewing, and a mindfulness/ mind-body connection approach. I am a certified yoga teacher and am working toward a Yoga Therapy certification. I am comfortable bringing in elements of mind body connection, breathwork and meditation if that is something of interest to you. Together we will build your resiliency and empower you to experience your most authentic self. I look forward to hearing form you and embarking on this journey together!

I specialize in supporting high-achieving young professionals, first-generation Asian-Americans, healthcare workers, medical spouses, immigrants, and international students facing anxiety, burnout, imposter syndrome, self-worth, identity, and relationship challenges. My approach is warm, collaborative, and culturally responsive. Together, we’ll explore how past experiences shape your present, helping you break free from patterns that no longer serve you. Fluent in English and Tagalog, I offer a space where you can unpack your experiences, build self-trust, and move forward with clarity. If you're ready to reclaim your voice, self-worth, and direction, I invite you to take the next step. As your therapist, I will help you know yourself in a deeper way. In doing so, you will be better equipped to enact changes in your life that will lead to greater happiness and a sense of well-being. We cannot erase negative past experiences. We can, however, work together to help you to better understand and to respond to these experiences in more constructive ways. Using a variety of therapeutic approaches, I will help you to become more aware of your long standing, negative behavioral patterns which are getting in your way of resolving challenges and of establishing and meeting your goals in life. I specialize in working with individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, conflicted relationships, work stress and identity issues. As an alternative to therapy, I also offer coaching services for clients working toward specific personal goals in the areas of career/work, self care (e.g. weight loss, improved work-life balance, meditation/mindfulness practices) and relationships. In addition to my 5th Avenue office, I have offices on East 57th St and in Great Neck, Long Island. I also provide therapy online to residents of NY State.

We assess each client's environment, family, biological factors, and experiences from childhood to the present day. We consider a strong therapeutic relationship to be the highest indicator of progress in therapy. Being able to be open with one another enhances the therapy process. Without a strong rapport between therapist and client, safety doesn't exist, and barriers to positive change exist. After gathering history and establishing rapport, we then tailor treatment to each client’s unique needs. We provide EMDR (trauma therapy) as well as regular talk psychotherapy.
