Therapists for college students near New York University
Welcome! I'm Casey Nordberg, a Limited Permit Mental Health Counselor (MHC-LP) in Brooklyn. I work with individuals of all ages, specializing in trauma, attachment and relationship issues, and life transitions. With a background working with families in child welfare and private practice, I bring a nuanced perspective to the therapeutic space, creating a safe environment for a diverse population of patients to explore the experiences that have shaped who they are today. This person-centered, compassion-driven lens supports those navigating emotional struggles, relationship challenges, and feelings of stagnation. In a fast-moving city that often rewards us for pushing forward at the expense of our well-being, taking the step to seek support shows real bravery, and I don't take that courage and trust lightly. I believe everyone has lived experience worth exploring with care, and I'm honored to help you find insight into your history and clarity on the steps ahead as I get to know you and we start this journey together. I am dedicated to meeting you where you are, centering your experiences as we work together to understand and move through what's difficult. Because life's ruptures most often occur in the context of relationships, I believe that building a healing, reparative relationship is one of the most important parts of therapy. That’s why I lead with empathy and warmth, taking a holistic, culturally humble approach, integrating relational and psychodynamic work with evidence-based strategies like motivational interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectal Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Mindfulness techniques, so that treatment can be tailored to what actually fits your life. In our work together, we'll collaborate to understand and gently challenge the thought patterns and behaviors that keep you feeling stuck, while honoring the role these strategies have played in helping you survive difficult experiences in the past. From there, we'll find the tools and coping skills that feel right for you, working toward clarity, self-compassion, and meaningful, sustainable change. My path to becoming a therapist began with stressful experiences within my own family growing up: illness and loss, family members' mental illness and substance misuse, and the complex relational dynamics that come with intergenerational trauma and colliding cultural norms. This experience shaped my interest in child and family mental health, and my drive to walk alongside people of all ages as they make sense of what they've been through. Outside of the therapy room, I love spending time in nature, exploring parks around the city on walks, going on runs, and picnics. Coming from a family of artists and creatives, I enjoy dancing to live music, visiting art museums, and painting with watercolors. On lower-key days, I adore curling up with a cup of tea, a good book, and my two cats.
As a licensed marriage and family therapist with four years of experience, my work centers on helping individuals and couples in early to mid-life find their footing when it comes to dating, communication, family dynamics, work-life balance, and self-identity. Whether you're navigating a major life transition, working through relationship difficulties, or simply trying to feel more like yourself, you deserve a therapist who shows up as a genuine partner in that process. Authentic connection is at the heart of everything I do. You can expect a collaborative, accepting presence as we do this work together. I look forward to growing alongside you. Relationships are at the center of my practice, including the most important one you have: your relationship with yourself. From there, my approach is direct, collaborative, and individualized to your specific needs. Rather than applying a one-size-fits-all method, I draw on person-centered and acceptance-based techniques, tailoring each session to your unique life experience so that our work together always feels relevant to you. That tailoring extends to the environment we create as well. Sessions are open, accepting, and nonjudgmental by design, a space where you can show up as you are. My style is gentle and forthright, as forming therapeutic relationships that help people become more authentically themselves is something I'm deeply passionate about. Together, we'll work toward helping you more genuinely know yourself and the people in your life. My path to becoming a therapist began as a teenager hungry for a sense of meaning in my life. This hunger brought me to study philosophy and then psychology as an undergraduate. I slowly realized that rather than being individualized, identity and meaning are things that are built up between people: through our relationships to friends, romantic partners, family, colleagues, or anyone else. This experience deepened my commitment to building the sorts of relationships in which identity and meaning are strengthened and nurtured -- like the relationships built in therapy. I bring this emphasis on genuine, human connection to each session. When I'm not in session, you might find me at an archery range, out for a run, or deep in a book on history, philosophy, biology, or psychology. Kurt Vonnegut and a good ghost story are always welcome on the nightstand! Drawing, video games, and Magic: The Gathering round out the mix, along with plenty of walks and playtime with my dog.

I work with clients who experience trauma, whether it is childhood sexual, physical, or emotional abuse, or more recent traumatic events. You might wish to forget about it by not talking about it, but it often comes back and “haunts” you. The best way to deal with a “ghost” is to talk about it and take away its power over you. It is normal that you want to avoid it. However, the worst part of Trauma is that it continues. I would like to help you work through it, separate the past from the present so you can move on with your life. I am also very much interested in working on Women’s Issues, life transitions, anxiety, and depression. You might feel compelled to behave in certain ways, and you don't understand your thoughts, feelings, and actions. Together, we will explore what works for you and what doesn’t by listening and seeking understanding. I will help reflect on any parts you did not understand before. With more information about yourself, you will be able to make better choices. I partner with teens and adults to navigate the complexities of trauma, intimate partner violence, and self-harm. Together, we work to understand fear, anger, shame, guilt, and envy, these difficult and painful emotions, rebuild your self-esteem, and cultivate a sense of resilience. I am licensed in New York and New Jersey and offer both online therapy and in-person sessions at my office located on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. I am fluent in both English and Mandarin

My specialties include treating anxiety, depression, mood disorders, ADHD, and other related conditions. I believe in creating partnerships based on collaboration and respect, as I’m passionate about offering a space where patients feel truly heard. I look forward to meeting you in your mental health journey and helping you find the right tools and treatment approach that best supports your needs. Working together, you can expect a safe and welcoming environment where you feel comfortable discussing your concerns openly and empowered to take an active role in your mental health journey. My style is collaborative and tailored to your unique experiences and needs, so that we can create a personalized treatment plan that best addresses your individual goals. This plan may include evidence-based practices and psychoeducation to help you gain a better understanding of your mental health and develop effective strategies to improve mental wellness. My career as a psychiatric nurse practitioner began as a nurse, spending many years working in various psychiatric settings. After gaining a wealth of experience in these settings, and from working with diverse patient populations, I felt a deepened commitment to providing high-quality care to people in my community. This led me to becoming a PMHNP and my role at SOL Mental Health, where I bring clinical experience, insight, and empathy to each session. Outside of work, I enjoy traveling, exploring new neighborhoods, spending time with loved ones, and relishing good food.

Adolescence and adulthood can be exciting and overwhelming. Navigating academic pressures, identity exploration, relationship challenges, or major life transitions can be daunting to tackle on your own. I specialize in supporting adolescents, young adults, and their families as they face anxiety, depression, trauma, identity concerns, and the stress of achievement and belonging. My experience working as an assistant dean of admission at Princeton University, coupled with my counseling experience at Princeton’s counseling and psychological center, and working in an independent K-12 school, has informed my deep understanding of the pressures students and families face in academic, social, and developmental spaces. In therapy, we’ll explore moments of vulnerability and discomfort that can contribute to self-doubt and isolation. I work collaboratively with individuals and families to uncover ways to strengthen communication and bring clarity to relational dynamics. My goal is to create an affirming space rooted in empathy and cultural humility, where you develop tools towards empowerment and rediscover your authentic self. I take an integrative and trauma-informed approach, grounded in person-centered, culturally responsive, and strength-based care. I draw from CBT with a multicultural and feminist lens, working with individuals from diverse backgrounds who may be navigating their gender and sexuality, cultural, and intersectional identities. Whether you're exploring therapy for the first time or continuing your journey, I am committed to making mental health care approachable and welcoming for everyone.
I work with children, adolescents, young adults, and adults who are navigating anxiety, depression, stress, life transitions, and relationship challenges . I especially enjoy supporting young adults through transitions such as college, early career, identity development, and finding their path. I also have a special interest in working with women navigating infertility, pregnancy, postpartum adjustment, and the emotional complexities of parenthood. Through creating a warm and supportive space, I hope to help you better understand your experiences, develop effective coping strategies, and move toward meaningful change. I offer an individualized, integrative approach grounded in psychodynamic therapy while incorporating Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and mindfulness-based strategies. I work collaboratively with clients to explore underlying patterns, develop practical coping skills, and create meaningful, lasting change. I strive to create a warm, compassionate, and nonjudgmental space where you can feel understood and supported. If you are feeling overwhelmed or are navigating a difficult life transition, I would be honored to support you as you gain greater clarity, self-awareness, and a deeper understanding of yourself.
I work with a variety of people whose active, creative lives have been interrupted by depression, mania, anxiety, mourning, and trauma. Psychotherapy with me is a process of guided expression. Thoughts and feelings, dreams and fantasies, desires and fears are given voice – loud, clear, and without judgment. The experience of formulating authentic verbal and emotional expressions can be transformative in and of itself. Also, as patterns in your way of being become clear, you can begin to consider alternatives, find courage to change, and experience what is commonly known as freedom. I think mental health means developing a Full Self – a progressive version of you that can love hard and work hard, understand complex motivations, and experience feelings, including painful ones, without being overwhelmed. In this process, I draw from extensive, ongoing training in both psychodynamics and cognitive-behavioral work. My training began in 2005 at Bellevue’s Psychiatric Emergency Room and continued at renowned New York City hospitals and institutions. I’ve been in private practice in Brooklyn since 2011. Also, I was an adjunct professor in a clinical Ph.D. program for many years and supervised trainees at two college clinics and psychiatry residents at Mt. Sinai Hospital. My publications are in the areas of loneliness, personality disorders, and art.
My approach begins with curiosity and non-judgment. Together we will create a space where we can talk about anything whether that may be sexuality, gender identity, disability, or family trauma. I believe that the healing is rooted within the relationship. As someone who lives with chronic pain, I want to hold space for the challenges that individuals face when managing their own care while celebrating the often ignored strengths it takes to do so. I understand that we live hectic lives that require flexibility and compassion but that therapy also thrives when there is structure and challenge. Together, we will work to understand what unique challenges you are facing in your present, that may be influenced by pieces of your history. By gaining a deeper sense of yourself and tuning out the outside noise, you become more attuned to your own inner compass to guide yourself when facing life’s many opportunities and challenges. Everyone is unique, so please feel free to reach out to schedule an initial consultation to explore how therapy can be a helpful tool in your journey.
Health and wellness are not linear and will only evolve within a dynamic and complex interplay of the many systems in our lives. I firmly believe that promoting mental health is a part of this interplay. I can help you with exploring those systems relevant to your mental health and developing strategies and routines to promote a robust everyday experience. I call this promoting your mental “Wellth”; because we can consider ourselves wealthy when our whole being is supported and living in abundance, not just our financials. My hope for the clients that I work with is that you will find the experience of working on your presenting needs and concerns to be a robust challenge. One that brings you closer to being the person you know you can be and closer to maintaining the lifestyle and relationships that are ideal for you.
I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) who works with children, adolescents, young adults, women, and families. I’m dedicated to helping patients navigate the lasting effects of trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, life transitions, and other experiences that leave people feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or stuck. At the center of my practice is the belief that every individual is the expert on their own life, one that continues to help me be a compassionate partner in your journey toward healing, growth, and self-acceptance. I look forward to creating a space together where you feel safe to explore challenges, celebrate growth, and discover the strengths that already exist within you. My approach is trauma-informed and attachment-based, incorporating mindfulness practices to support healing and personal growth. It's also warm, person-centered, and collaborative, grounded in the belief that the therapeutic relationship is one of the most important parts of the healing process. Building a genuine, personalized connection with each person I work with is something I'm passionate about, because feeling safe, supported, and empowered makes all the difference. In practice, that means drawing on a range of approaches tailored to your unique goals and strengths. These include person-centered therapy, trauma-focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, narrative therapy, psychodynamic therapy, attachment theory, and elements of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Together, these tools help you build insight, strengthen self-compassion, develop healthier coping strategies, and create meaningful, lasting change. Sessions are flexible by design; our work takes the shape you need it to. From a young age, I knew I wanted to dedicate my life to supporting and connecting with others, and was often described as empathetic and compassionate – qualities that, in time, pointed me clearly toward a career in mental health. In college, I discovered a passion for psychology and the opportunity to better understand the complexities of human behavior. That curiosity led me to pursue my Master of Social Work, deepening my understanding of the ways mental health, life experiences, relationships, and larger systems shape our well-being. These experiences strengthened my commitment to and passion for personalized care, and confirmed what I'd believed for a long time: that healing happens best in a space that feels warm, collaborative, and genuinely yours. Now, I bring this same curiosity, compassion, and respect for your unique story to every session. When I'm not in session, you'll often find me listening to a mystery or psychological thriller audiobook, crocheting, or spending an afternoon in a nearby park with my favorite salty snack — chips and dip or cheese and crackers, to be specific. At home, I'm endlessly entertained by my two cats: Penny, a tortie, and Ozzy, an orange tabby. Discovering new movies and TV shows is another favorite pastime, and I'm always happy to talk about my love of food!

Hi, I’m a queer-identified therapist who is passionate about creating a safe, affirming space for LGBTQIA+ individuals, couples, and adolescents, as well as people in non-traditional relationships]. I believe therapy should be a place where all parts of you are welcome—without judgment, without assumptions, and without having to educate your therapist about your identity or lifestyle. I work with adults, teens, and couples navigating a range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, mood disorders, life transitions, relationship stress, trauma, and burnout. Whether you're exploring your identity, managing emotional overwhelm, or navigating complex relational dynamics, my goal is to support you with compassion and evidence-based care. I use an integrative approach to care, basead on your needs. In our work together, we’ll balance insight and self-exploration with skill-building and practical strategies, so you can feel more grounded, connected, and empowered in your daily life. Whether you're working through the weight of complex family dynamics, struggling to understand how your past is shaping your present, or simply trying to find your footing, you've come to the right place. As a Licensed Master Social Worker with five years of experience, my work centers on helping people navigate anxiety, depression, and major life transitions. While much of my work connects deeply with people in their 20s and 30s, these experiences are universal, and anyone navigating similar challenges is welcome here. My goal is to help you make sense of what you're going through, better understand yourself, and find a path forward that feels clear, realistic, and genuinely meaningful. Therapy with me is grounded, honest, and real. You won't have to meet me halfway; I'll meet you exactly where you are. The way we relate to ourselves and others is often shaped by patterns formed long before we were aware of them. Understanding where those patterns come from, and how they're affecting your life today, is at the heart of how we'll work together. My approach is warm, curious, and completely nonjudgmental. Drawing from an integrative framework that includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), psychodynamic therapy, and Internal Family Systems (IFS), we'll explore what's keeping you stuck and build the insight and tools needed to move forward in a way that feels sustainable. Sessions are collaborative by design, shaped around your unique needs, goals, and experiences. My style is direct and down to earth, because the most meaningful progress happens when things are broken down in a way that feels clear, practical, and relevant to your life. Having faced my own mental health challenges and experienced firsthand what it feels like to have those concerns dismissed, I came to this work with deep conviction. Normalizing mental health conversations and creating a space where you feel genuinely understood isn't just a professional value; it's a personal one. Every session, I bring a warm, direct, and grounded presence with the intention of making sure you never feel unheard. Outside of sessions, you can find me catching up on the latest shows and films, hunting for new music, or heading to Pilates. Reading, crocheting, and other crafts give me a creative outlet I genuinely love, and I'm always up for a good shopping trip or the chance to explore somewhere new. Travel, in particular, feeds my curiosity in ways that carry right back into the work.

With more than four years of experience in private practice and state-contracted non-profit settings, I provide individual therapy to adults and adolescents, both in person and virtually. Having navigated my own personal and parenting challenges, I bring humility and authenticity to this work, and I see struggle as space for growth, learning, and discovery. My clinical approach draws on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and family systems therapy, which I use to support parents with skill development and behavior management, strengthen emotional regulation and connection, and help you build sustainable systems of support. Creativity and self-expression are also powerful tools I draw on for connection and healing. My work is deeply rooted in family systems and multidisciplinary collaboration, as I value working within the context of your family and broader support networks, because meaningful progress happens when care is coordinated and holistic. Persistence, clear communication, patience, and problem-solving skills guide that work, helping families break generational patterns and create individualized action plans. Across both private practice and state-contracted non-profit settings, in person and virtual, the purpose behind my work has remained the same: offering you thoughtful, individualized support through collaborative, patient-centered care. I'm a mother of two and a beginner gym enthusiast, who loves plants, nature, and the arts.
