Therapists for college students near New York, NY
Hi! My name is Patricia. I am a therapist in training, trying to provide a space with compassion, dedication, and support in order to help my clients, in their own capacity, to heal and thrive. To provide a place where they can feel safe and have their voice heard. I use a couple of different modalities depending on what the client needs because every client is unique. I usually gravitate towards a client-centered approach and implement cognitive-behavior therapy (CBT). However, I will adapt and tailor my therapeutic approach depending on what the client needs and what the best fit is. I am committed to providing a safe, judgment free space and help my clients grow and get themselves into a healthier place. Hi ! I am Samah, a South Asian therapist originally from India. I specialize in working with students, including international students, people of color, and immigrants who are navigating not just academics, but identity, belonging, and the pressure to succeed. As an immigrant myself, I understand how cultural expectations can affect us and manifest as beliefs, patterns, and behaviors that may not serve us; therefore, we will navigate these concerns together in a way that allows you to uphold your cultural values while building a strong sense of self. I understand what it’s like to begin this journey away from family, balancing the guilt of leaving loved ones behind while trying to build a new life. It can feel like you’re living between two worlds: holding onto your cultural identity while also trying to adapt, grow, and find your place in a new environment. This experience can bring up feelings of isolation, anxiety, and self-doubt, even when things seem to be going well on the outside. In our work together, I aim to create a space where you feel seen, understood, and supported as your full self. Whether you’re struggling with anxiety, self-esteem, academic pressure, or questions around identity and family, we can explore these challenges at your pace and help you feel more grounded and confident in who you are becoming.

Is life feeling out of control? Are you struggling with significant life changes, relationship issues, grief, immigration and acculturation challenges, or in need of trauma processing? Maybe it’s time to talk with someone. You don’t have to face these challenges alone—I'm here to help and make it easier for you. As a first-generation Chinese American immigrant, I understand many of these struggles on a personal level, and so many of my clients find that connection valuable to open up to me. I am confident that with my experience and personalized approach, I can guide you toward a positive direction in life. My clients often express that they feel heard and safe during our sessions with my naturally warm and empathetic demeanor, but also challenge them at a capacity for growth. Outside of my work, I enjoy spending time with my family and my pug, watching dramas, reading books, and staying in quiet places—all of which help me stay grounded and balanced. What do you do to feel grounded? It’s completely normal to feel uncertain about starting therapy, especially if it’s new to you or you don’t know me yet. I encourage you to book a consultation with me. I’d love to address your hesitations and support you on your journey toward a better life. I’m here for you, but I need you to take that first step so we can navigate this path together.

Hello! I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in NY with over 7 years of experience in the field. I specialize in ADHD, anxiety, depression, trauma, and PTSD. I have worked with youth and adults in my community in both clinical and academic settings, and especially enjoy working with college students and faculty. I am a proud LGBTQIA+ ally, and I am committed to anti-racism and understanding the unique struggles at the intersections of race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, and mental health. I use a mix of CBT, DBT, positive psychology, and mindfulness techniques. My person-centered therapeutic style focuses on acceptance and relationship building. I am a calm and empathetic listener, and do my best to be positive and upbeat when appropriate. I work well with those who are seeking change and willing to explore their diagnoses and how their symptoms are impacting their life. This way, we can collaboratively develop a treatment plan, build new skills, and evaluate your progress together. In our first session, we’ll discuss your current symptoms, concerns, and history. This will help us develop an initial plan for treatment, which we’ll collaborate on moving forward. Helping others with their mental health is my life’s passion, and I encourage you to reach out if you think we might be a good fit. I am part of the Path referral network, which means that when you reach out, my team will get back to you quickly to schedule our first session. I am committed to making therapy affordable. Through Path, I am in-network for most commercial insurances, so you're only responsible for your co-pay!
My practice offers psychodynamic and cognitive behavioral therapy to help patients move beyond roadblocks toward personal growth. We see patients across the lifespan and have been privileged to help people work through some of the most personal struggles in their lives. Together, we can address problematic behaviors (e.g., insomnia, anger, procrastination), troubling emotions (e.g., depression, anxiety, anger, fear), maladaptive thought patterns (e.g., rumination, worry, self-criticism), and relationship issues (e.g., work, family, dating). Taking the first step toward approaching your challenges can be scary. Finding a therapist you trust and with whom you feel comfortable is one of the most important factors in helping you to move forward. My practice also offers comprehensive psychological assessment services for children, adolescents, and adults. We use evidence-based assessment tools and methods grounded in research to conduct psychodiagnostic, psychoeducational, and fitness for duty/disability evaluations. The results of these evaluations can be used to aid in diagnosis and treatment, facilitate the provision of special education services, support applications for accommodations at school or work, or provide evidence of fitness for employment. We offer specialized consultation services, as well. Please check out our website to learn more.

Hello, I'm Dr. Clifford (please feel free to call me Heather!). I bring a compassionate and a caring approach to therapy that is trauma informed and queer affirming. The transition to young adulthood can be a time of major changes, successes, and disappointments. The pressure of being a young adult and figuring out "the future" is often overwhelming and anxiety provoking. You may be questioning your values, sexuality, relationships and career aspirations. I specialize in helping college students explore the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that are getting in the way of them living a life that is in line with their values. Through our work together I can help you clarify what is important to you and develop skills to help you live the life you choose. I use evidenced based approaches like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to help support you become present and participate in the important parts of life. I often incorporate mindfulness and compassion focused exercises during sessions. I am committed to unlearning oppressive biases and beliefs including but not limited to white supremacy, racism, ableism, homophobia, and fatphobia. I believe that these systems of oppression hugely impact our mental health and come to play in the therapy room. I am always open to discuss and explore these topics.
I partner with my clients to improve understanding and mastery of themselves, the challenges they face, both interpersonally, intra psychically, and in a larger societal context. I work well with people from all ethnicities, backgrounds, and sexual orientations. I love my work and look forward to collaborating with clients to achieve the goals set by them.
You are seeking therapy because you know it’s time for a change. Your anxiety or trauma have affected how you see and interact with the world, and feeling more at peace seems like a hard-to-reach place. Oftentimes, we’re our own worst critics. You may be telling yourself that you can’t meet your work or academic goals, address challenging relationship issues, or develop the self-esteem and creativity you need to succeed on your path in life. Your perspective of the world may have been shaped by childhood experiences you had little to no control over. Maybe you are a member of the LGBTQIA+ community and have lost the support of your family or loved ones due to issues related to your identity. Or perhaps you no longer know who you are anymore, don’t like who you are, or don’t know how to relate to other people. You’re here now because you’ve made the decision to become more aware of the negative self-talk that has been affecting daily functioning and ready to learn what to do with it when it comes around. In confronting your fears, and looking within yourself, you learn to understand how to make sense of the world, how to better cope with strategies and tools that are actually useful and your focus begins to shift to things that you can actually control. Seeking change is no small feat and takes incredible courage! Luckily, you don’t have to walk this path alone. Creating a safe space where you get to challenge those beliefs, invest in your well-being, and improve your overall life satisfaction is my highest priority.

Meaningful relationships help maintain mental and physical health and can be an antidote to stress. When our core relationships are struggling or when we're struggling to build core relationships, the stress and loneliness can permeate all aspects of our lives. Relational stress and loneliness are reasons many people seek the support of a therapist. Through therapy, clients can explore relationship patterns and barriers preventing them from making and maintaining meaningful and warm connection with others. Treatment can include treating symptoms of social anxiety, exploring discomfort with intimacy, navigating conflict, setting boundaries, and voicing needs. In addition to individual therapy, family and couple therapy can provide insight into system dynamics. Clients learn to recognize and change negative cycles and build deeper and more positive bonds. If you are dissatisfied with your relationships and are ready to work toward change, meeting with a therapist is a great place to start. If you’re not sure if individual, couple, or family therapy is the right choice, a free consultation with a therapist to discuss options can be helpful. If you think I might be a good fit, please reach out.

The students I work best with often share a desire to feel understood, supported, and empowered as they navigate college life, especially when their path doesn’t look like everyone else’s. I work with a wide range of college students including international students, first-generation college students, students from diverse cultural and racial backgrounds, as well as both traditional and nontraditional students. What they often have in common is that they’re carrying a lot, whether it's pressure to succeed, cultural or family expectations, feelings of anxiety, questions about identity and belonging, or simply the stress of trying to figure out who they are and what comes next. In our work together, we create space to explore these experiences without judgment. If you’re a student who’s juggling multiple roles, feeling out of place, or simply looking for support during a major life transition, you’re not alone and you don’t have to do it all on your own.
