I am a licensed psychologist with a Ph.D. from Columbia University and over a decade of clinical experience. Sometimes the hardest part is taking the first step, this could be yours! Are you feeling overwhelmed, burnt out, or quietly unraveling; even though you’re “holding it all together”? You don’t have to keep managing everything on your own. Many of my clients are navigating deep emotional pain shaped by personal, cultural, and systemic pressures. Therapy can help you feel grounded, empowered, and whole again. I offer a warm, collaborative environment where your unique story is heard, honored, and supported. I have had a myriad of clinical experiences - from psychiatric emergency, inpatient, outpatient, forensic, women’s health, sub-acute care, to geriatric settings. I specialize in treating issues including but not limited to: depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties, college adjustment challenges, academic stress, life transitions, trauma, grief, as well as racial-cultural, immigrant and identity-based concerns. My approach blends cultural sensitivity with evidence-based care, meeting you without pressure. Starting psychotherapy is a significant step, often fraught with fear and uncertainty; I deeply respect the courage it takes. My goal is to provide a space where you feel understood, uplifted, and safe enough to explore what’s most important. Healing begins with one decision; your journey forward can start now! Don't hesitate to reach out for an appointment. I am in-network with Aetna, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield (formerly known as Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield), Blue Cross Blue Shield, and Providence. Private pay is also welcome if preferred and a sliding scale offered. I am now accepting new clients. If you've been waiting for a sign to start, this is it! Hi & welcome. My college years were a time of great learning and friendship, and also, of significant loss. This led to my own passion of supporting young adults facing challenges and grief during this important life stage. I have extensive experience working with grieving individuals - children, teens, college students, and adults - including after incidents of mass trauma. My practice (CT/NY) also provides support to those struggling with anxiety, depression, PTSD, family and relationship difficulties, academic and career challenges, self-doubt, and stressors due to caregiving. My therapeutic approach is eclectic and results-oriented and incorporates elements of psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT). I also value the role of creative expression and appreciate how art, play, and narrative therapies impact healing. I value each client as unique and resilient. I offer compassion, warmth, and humor as we collaborate to work towards building on your strengths, increasing your coping skills, and creating the changes you hope to see. We're a team and we got this!

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with a degree in Mindfulness-based Transpersonal Counseling from Naropa University, in Boulder, Colorado. Mindfulness informs all aspects of my work, including my emphasis on creating a space of compassion and curiosity in which we can explore, experiment, and journey together. You can't do anything "wrong" in therapy; everything that happens can be mined for wisdom. I have primarily worked with people to address issues related to anxiety, depression, self-concept, and life transitions. I see therapy sessions as a balance between processing and skill-building, in which there is enough open space to explore and also enough direction to come away with concrete action steps to create the desired change. In addition to mindfulness, I have training in dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Internal Family Systems (IFS). I frequently guide my clients in getting to know and work with "parts" of themselves. I bring a trauma-informed approach to all sessions, in which safety, empowerment, and self-compassion are held paramount. For trauma-specific work, I utilize my training in EMDR therapy to provide targeted interventions designed to desensitize and reprocess traumatic experiences in the brain. Above all else, I hold a steadfast hope for the ability of each and every person to heal and grow. It is truly an honor and privilege to join my clients in that journey.

I'm so glad you've started this journey to improve your mental wellbeing. I know how difficult beginnings can be—I’ve worked with a number of first-time and returning therapy clients from backgrounds as diverse as New York City itself. I particularly enjoy working with LGBTQIA+ clients and people with disabilities and neurodivergences. I do my best to honor your cultural experience as we tackle some of life’s biggest challenges together: depression and anxiety, trauma and grief, chronic illness and medical issues, relationship difficulties and life transitions, and problematic drug use or other behaviors that may no longer be serving you. My own career began in worker organizing, then moved into community social work and social policy research. I have a deep appreciation for how relationships and social realities impact mental health and prioritize a relational and social change-oriented approach. Disability justice, racial justice, and gender justice are core tenets of my practice. My work is also influenced by my own experiences as a therapy client: I strive to be as transparent as possible about what we’re doing and why, so you can be a full partner on the journey and never feel left in the dark. Above all, I am person-centered: I start by learning who you are as an individual, your strengths and challenges, and then figure out which clinical approaches can work best for you. I often draw from Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) and am pursuing further training in these modalities. I very much look forward to meeting you and taking this journey together!

The Rust Wellness approach to therapy is tailoring each session to fit the needs of the client and consistently reevaluating to meet their evolving issues and concerns. We know how difficult it is to open up about mental health topics, especially with a stranger, so we strive to establish a warm and inviting atmosphere that encourages our clients to share their vulnerabilities. Trust is incredibly important in a therapist-client relationship, so we aim to create an environment that will facilitate our clients’ comfort.

Learning how to navigate life as a young adult is hard! You are trying to balance the demands of work or school, family, and friends, all while figuring out who you are and who you want to be. As a driven and successful individual, you may put a lot of pressure on yourself and feel constrained by your own expectations. This can lead to constant self-doubt and feeling like you're always reaching for an unattainable (or unrealistic) goal. You may be overextending yourself to others, and not focusing on yourself. Perhaps you have negative thought patterns or behaviors that are causing discomfort or you don't always understand your reactions. Virtual therapy can help. Let's work together to discover the barriers that are keeping you from finding balance in your life - taking care of yourself and setting boundaries is not selfish!

I'M A FIRM BELIEVER in the health of one's mind being a crucial factor in their ability to meet the demands of everyday life. It becomes a harder task to address stressful situations if you're already not feeling well. Think about moments when you might not have been able to focus at work, successfully study for an exam, or even effectively communicate your concerns to others due to how you felt mentally and physically. MY WORK AS A THERAPIST ENTAILS consistent problem-solving, reasoning, exploring, investigating, learning, and healing. I provide compassionate, supportive, encouraging, and challenging therapy that facilitates and promotes growth for people who seek to improve the quality of their lives. Reflecting on one's actions, highlighting the importance of self-awareness, and offering advisement on ways to improve the overall health of one's lifestyle are a few ways by which I aid individuals in achieving an enhanced experience of life. THROUGH THESE MEANS, the ability to focus at work becomes a bit easier, studying for an exam is not such a harrowing feat and effectively expressing your needs feels like more of a natural practice. All the while, paying special attention to your improved health both mentally and physically.
