Therapists for college students near Portland State University
I am a licensed psychologist with a private practice, Blume Therapy, LLC, in Portland, Oregon. I have worked at multiple universities and college counseling centers, both as a therapist and as an educator, and I am passionate about working with young adults at this extraordinary time of life. There are many reasons that people seek therapy. No matter the specific reason, you are probably here because you are struggling with something that matters to you a great deal. I have training and experience in treating anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties (family, peer), trauma, grief and loss, academic stress, issues related to identity, chronic illness and chronic pain, and dissatisfaction with one’s life and oneself. In all of the work that I do, I strive to provide culturally-oriented care and am committed to my own professional training and growth in regards to systems of oppression and social justice. My goal is to offer affirming work with individuals of diverse racial, cultural, sexual and gender identities. In therapy, my work is emotion-focused, trauma-informed, strengths-based and attentive to interpersonal processes. My style is compassionate, collaborative, curious and warm. I believe that having a strong connection with your therapist is the foundation of successful work. I also believe that understanding how our past experiences and early relationships impact us in the present is an important part of lasting change. I have a personal interest in mindfulness, and this influences my work. In all of the work that I do, I strive to provide culturally-oriented care, where the many intersections of your identity are at the heart of understanding who you are and the strengths you possess.
My approach to counseling is collaborative, compassionate, patient, and kind. I will focus on understanding you where you are at without judgement, so that you can have greater acceptance of yourself and your experience, and be able to be vulnerable and honest with someone who cares as you navigate the challenges you face. I don't believe that there are any "quick fixes" in therapy - rather, I see counseling as more like a journey of lasting change, personal growth, and self-development, one that can be achieved in relationship with someone who can support you and your process. My work focuses on people at all stages of life who are working through developmental transitions (leaving home, starting or ending a relationship, experiencing big life changes, etc.) who want to better understand who they are, and how they can become the best version of themself using the strengths they have within themselves. I help people to understand themselves and their patterns so they can identify and gain insight about their thoughts, feelings, and identify blind-spots to be able to make choices and move forward in a direction that feels best for them.
We all come into therapy for different reasons. Some people may have specific challenges they are looking to overcome, while others may just need to explore why they feel the way they do. Both in relationships and as individuals, often we first feel the barriers in front of us before we really understand where they are coming from. Challenges in my own life and the very complexities of identity itself have profoundly shaped my empathetic approach to life. I see therapy as a conversation, and I am deeply committed to maintaining an open dialogue with you. I also recognize that you are the expert on your own lived experiences. I am here to support you in your journey of resilience, empowerment, and self-discovery. I provide a space where you can feel safe exploring gender and sexual identities, overcoming the stigma of addiction, understanding the impact of discrimination, overcoming depression, anxiety, trauma and other intersecting issues. My approach to counseling is based on a holistic person-centered philosophy that emphasizes empathy, unconditional positive regard, and authenticity. As a therapist, my primary goal is to empower you to take control of your journey toward change, providing a safe and collaborative space where we can work together.
The therapeutic relationship is the key to my approach. Together we will build strong therapeutic relationship through mutual trust and understanding. This creates a safe environment for self-exploration, growth and development. I believe that if we work collaboratively we can identify problems and personalize treatment direction. My goal is to help you cope with your daily struggles, improve resiliency and create lasting change. With the right skills, each individual has the capacity to accomplish their goals. I specialize in effective therapy for individuals who are suffering from depression, anxiety, difficulty maintaining healthy relationships, low self-esteem and assertiveness issues as well as survivors of trauma, and domestic violence.

I also enjoy working with individuals of diverse identities and backgrounds, which has been a focus in both my career and my ongoing education. Having trained at the University of Notre Dame (Ph.D., M.A.), UC Berkeley (APA-accredited internship) and Stanford (post-doctoral fellowship), I bring rigorous scientific expertise into my clinical work with college students. In fact, I worked at the University Counseling Centers at all three of these schools and have continued to develop a specialized private practice that focuses almost exclusively on college students. I also teach for Pepperdine University in their Graduate School of Education & Psychology. I help clients with a range of concerns including: anxiety, depression, career and academic concerns, ADHD, relationship concerns (situationships, am I right? :) ), body image and eating disorders, perfectionism, college/life transitions, as well as family of origin challenges (let's say it together, boundaries...). I often work with high-achieving students who often are managing academically but struggling internally. My clients often put others first and themselves last. By the time they come to therapy, concerns have been going on for some time and they've reached a breaking point. They may feel they "should" be able to handle things on their own. As a recovering perfectionist and someone who was riddled with anxiety throughout college, I get it. It wasn't until my own training in CBT that I learned how destructive such thought patterns were. It inspired my clinical approach, as well as three clinical workbooks I've published on Solution-Focused Therapy, CBT, and Positive Psychology with the top mental health publishers. Many of my clients who have been to therapy before often remark how "easy" I make the process. We laugh, we learn, and talk like old friends. Therapy doesn't have to be stuffy or stressful. It's about feeling respected, validated and heard. Learning to take care of yourself, set appropriate boundaries, and thrive! I'd LOVE to work with you! Please feel free to book a complimentary 15 minute consultation at my website below so we can connect!

Whether you’re interested in: - Healing from Eating Disorders with a Harm Reduction Approach - Navigating Motherhood as a Complex Trauma Survivor - Recovering from Childhood Trauma with Compassion All while going through the rigors of college, I am passionate about co-creating a culturally affirming space where all of you is honored and welcomed. You will find and engage in life-giving relationships and activities, while advancing your education. I will collaborate with you to feel empowered to embody healing with compassion, not shame, for yourself and the next generation.
I help adult individuals, youth and families navigate difficult times, process past traumas and become aware of unhelpful thinking patterns and habits. I have extensive experience assisting others in overcoming depression, PTSD, anxiety and trauma-based symptoms. I approach the therapeutic relationship with warmth, kindness, genuine curiosity and positive regard. I believe that the therapeutic relationship should be cooperative, honest and strength focused. This aligns with research on the subject showing that outcomes depend on a strong and genuine connection. I have been formally trained in trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT), family systems theory and collaborative problem solving (CPS). I hold a master’s degree in counseling psychology and strive to continue my own education and personal growth.
I understand that healing is not one-size-fits-all, and culture, identity, and lived experiences matter. Whether you are working through generational trauma, burnout, boundaries, self-worth, or simply trying to figure out how to make life feel lighter, you do not have to do it alone.
Making Sense of Your Experiences Over nearly three decades of working with clients, I've come to appreciate how resilient people really are. I've learned that meaningful change often begins when we better understand what has shaped the way we think, feel and behave. Therapy can offer a place to make sense of those influences, recognize patterns that may no longer be working and develop new ways of approaching life that feel more effective and sustainable. Many of the clients I work with are gaining a deeper understanding of how early relationships and experiences continue to affect the way they see themselves, relate to others and respond to challenges in the present. Some have spent years feeling on edge, different, misunderstood or unsure of themselves. Others find that the ways they have learned to cope or connect with others are no longer serving them well, leaving them feeling disconnected, stuck or unsure of what comes next. Therapy can help create greater clarity around these experiences and what you'd like to be different going forward. Understanding How You’re Wired A significant focus of my practice is working with adults with ADHD and other forms of neurodivergence, including those diagnosed later in life. For many, discovering they have ADHD in adulthood brings both relief and grief, as years of experiences begin to make sense through a different lens. With that understanding, many begin to see their past experiences, struggles and strengths in a new light. Together, we can explore what helps you function at your best, build on your strengths, quiet self-doubt and help you feel more at ease and confident in yourself. How I Approach Therapy I believe therapy should be tailored to the individual. No two people bring the same history, strengths, needs or way of seeing the world. My approach is warm, collaborative and practical, with plenty of room for curiosity, reflection and real-life problem solving. We’ll work together in a way that feels intentional, useful and genuinely suited to you. No matter what brings you here, my hope is that therapy helps you understand yourself with greater clarity, self-compassion and confidence.
As a mom and Army Veteran, I am passionate about supporting those who have dedicated their lives to service (of all types!) I am committed to creating a safe and judgment-free space for you to finally be the one that receives support. Whether you're a veteran navigating the challenges of post-service life, a healthcare provider managing the pressures of the field, a mom juggling the demands of parenthood, or the friend who everyone turns to, I am here to partner with you to give YOU the support you deserve.

Hello! I am an experienced counselor with a friendly, grounded style of relating to people. You will find me easy to talk to. I know that college can be a very stressful time, filled with stress, transition and uncertainty. My goal is to help with real solutions and provide lots of support. I also help people cope with anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, and relationship problems. Telehealth therapy is available for students in Oregon and Washington.
Hello! I work with folks on issues including anxiety, depression, trauma, attachment issues, disordered eating and body image. More than just developing better coping skills, I also want to help you explore where the worry, negative self-beliefs and unhelpful coping behaviors come from. When we do that, we can appreciate how all behavior really is an attempt to get our needs met, diminishing the shame that so often surrounds mental health struggles. My goal is to help you foster more compassion for yourself, making it easier to understand your inner needs and mindfully pursue actions that are healing. I'm trained in Internal Family Systems (IFS), Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) and I'm always learning more about treating trauma to help address the impact of past overwhelming experience, whether they felt big or small.
I specialize in supporting adults with anxiety, OCD, and trauma. I take a collaborative approach to therapy that incorporates individuality and the wisdom clients have about themselves, along with evidence-based approaches. I view my role as walking alongside you in your therapy journey to provide support in setting and accomplishing goals that are aligned with your values. I worked in 3 college counseling centers prior to working in private practice. As a queer, neurodivergent therapist, I particularly enjoy working with individuals also in these communities.
I see therapy as a place for people to be deeply understood and gently challenged to take action on what they value most. I use a collaborative, strengths-based approach to support what is already working for you, including your innate resilience and knowledge, while also targeting areas of struggle. I recognize that healing and change happen in the context of genuine, consistent, and intentional relationships, and strive to bring these things into therapy along with techniques from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. I also deeply value feminist, queer, and liberation psychologies and draw upon these wisdoms to explore the struggle of being human from a social justice lens. Relatedly, my understanding of systems of oppression, and therefore my orientation to therapeutic practice, are informed by my identities as a White, Jewish, pansexual cisgender woman.
