I am a Psychotherapist and Psychoanalyst with many years of experience working with undergraduate, graduate, and medical students. I worked for many years at Carnegie Mellon Counseling Center before transitioning to full time in my private practice 15 years ago. I work with a wide range of difficulties including stress, anxiety, sadness, feeling overwhelmed, difficulties with academics or relationships, family difficulties, homesickness, procrastination, concentration or motivation difficulties, uncertainty about life direction. I help students in both practical and deeper ways. I work well with students who want to understand themselves and their symptoms, and are open to exploring how and why their difficulties have come about in addition to developing better coping mechanisms. I often see students who have seen other therapists and have not felt a good connection or felt the therapy was not helpful. I am warm, empathetic and good at engaging adolescents and young adults. I offer practical techniques to address symptoms such as mindfulness, meditation and relaxation strategies if desired. In addition, I engage students in looking deeper for more lasting change. I see people virtually and have some in person slots at my office in Squirrel Hill.
I am a licensed counselor, board-certified art therapist, and trauma-informed yoga practitioner who blends evidence-based treatments into a creative and personalized approach. I specialize as a HAES (Health At Every Size) clinician who utilizes mind-body approaches such as art therapy, somatic therapy, and yoga in conjunction with talk therapy to treat bio-psycho-social disorders such as eating disorders and disordered eating. My clients are looking to make lasting and impactful changes in their lives to gain insight into their mental health and improve their own well-being. I believe humor and creativity are integral to building a therapeutic relationship. I specialize in art therapy where individuals may work through their issues by gaining insight and expressing themselves through metaphor. Clients will gain greater insight into their mind-body connection, and how they can utilize their strengths to minimize feelings of shame and increase overall life satisfaction. I can assist in improving one's relationship with food, movement, perfectionist tendencies, and themselves. My clients work towards gaining insight into their mental health and its mind-body connection by identifying triggers, warning signs, and impacts of distress. My clients build coping and calming skills to manage symptoms, improving executive functioning, boundaries, and relationships with others and themselves.

I'm passionate about helping my clients develop a deeper understanding of themselves and of how they show up in the world. Have you ever said to yourself, "there's got to be more to life than this!" or wondered, "what do other people understand that I'm just not getting?". If you find yourself craving an easier flow to daily living and more enjoyment of the present moment, you're in the right place. Many of the people I work with are Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) who are struggling to navigate multiple areas of their life like work, school, family, relationships, or the intersectionalities of their identities. Many talk about often feeling overwhelmed, stressed, or stuck. This then kicks off to what feels like a never ending cycle of confusion, frustration, depression, and anxiety. Therapy is an opportunity to find clarity and work through these obstacles to help people get their life back on track. My clients and I work together to develop more mindful behaviors to help lead a more meaningful and healthy life. People develop certain attitudes and perspectives based on their early life experiences to survive when they were younger. But these attitudes and perspectives are not helping now which is part of the reason why people might feel stuck. By looking at these attitudes and perspectives closely, people can learn to change how they talk to themselves, how they react to their emotions. and take more thoughtful actions to move forward towards a more authentic and fulfilling life. My practice integrates several evidence-based treatments such as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for Psychosis (CBTp), Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) that encompasses principles of person-centered, recovery-oriented, trauma-informed, multiculturalism, and strength-based values. With my compassionate, collaborative, non-judgmental, and down-to-earth style, therapy can address the things that are getting in the way of people’s life so that they can move forward. COMMON EXPERIENCES THAT I WORK WITH PEOPLE ON: - It feels like your mind is playing tricks on you - It feels like your eyes or ears are playing tricks on you - It feels like something odd is going on or hard to explain - Confused at times whether something is real or imaginary - You feel suspicious or mistrustful of others - It feels like you have little control over your thoughts - It feels like others can hear your thoughts or read your mind - Having thoughts or beliefs that you or others find strange - Race-related identity, culture, and intersectionality - Cultural and systemic trauma and oppression
