You didn’t ask for this—whether it’s a major life change, a new mental health diagnosis, or that frustrating sense of being stuck in the same loop over and over. You may be navigating something unfamiliar: a shift in your identity, a change in your relationships, or a diagnosis that’s left you overwhelmed, confused, or doubting yourself. Maybe you’ve noticed patterns that no longer serve you but haven’t been able to break free from them. You want to feel in control again—or maybe for the first time. And while you might hate what you’re feeling right now, some part of you is ready to figure it out. That’s where I come in. Our work together is collaborative. I’ll meet you with curiosity, honesty, and care—helping you connect the dots, challenge stuck narratives, and build something new. We’ll explore how past experiences might be shaping the present, how your diagnosis fits into the bigger picture, and what tools will actually help you feel more like you again. My clients are open to the therapy process, even when it's hard. They want clarity, relief, and a sense of mastery over their mental health—not just symptom relief, but true understanding. If you’re ready to start, reach out. We can talk about where you are, where you want to be, and how we can get there—together.

I believe the relationship between client and therapist is what is most important in the therapeutic process. Feeling safe and comfortable is what will allow you to challenge yourself to be vulnerable. Building trust together is what makes the works we will do transformative. My 19 years of work experience thus far has prepared me in various ways to be a support to others. Most recently, I have worked directly with the college student population at a local university. My efforts with college-age students have reminded me just how difficult the transition between high school and the world, between youth and adulthood, can be. Navigating those decisions, molding a new identity, and learning about responsibility: these challenges require empathy and encouragement. My focus is a time limited therapy—understanding the root of the issues occurring and offering tools and support to ultimately make myself obsolete. I work out of an emotion focused lens, offering EMDR to manage and treat those destructive, rooted themes that arise in one’s life. I believe in the work I do. I believe change is possible because I have seen it, and I have lived it. There is nothing more exciting for me than to witness another’s curative process. Congratulations on taking this step towards joy and serenity, towards a more conscious, self-assured way of living.

At some point along the journey, our stories demand to be told. Whether through painful emotional and physical symptoms, relationship struggles, or other interruptive experiences, our lives catch up to us. They ask for our attention. Therapy is a place where, together, we can pay closer attention to your story and the person you are becoming. We are all always in process. I believe that we can experience true healing in a human encounter, and I strive to deeply listen to my clients, bringing curiosity and attention to the parts of you that may have gone unnoticed. Approach to Therapy My counseling approach is rooted in relational psychodynamic therapy, which focuses on patterns and themes from early childhood and how they show up in your life today. This approach also emphasizes the relationship between the therapist and client as a vehicle for healing and change. It’s important to find someone you feel comfortable with, and it may take you some time to discern the right fit. I respect the vulnerability and bravery required to step into this work, and aim to meet you with humility, curiosity, and a responsible awareness of my own intersecting identities. Each person brings unique concerns and needs, and I am committed to ongoing research and training to provide the best care I can. I draw from a variety of approaches, including attachment-based therapy, family systems work, liberation psychology, Internal Family Systems (informed, not certified), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Narrative-Focused Trauma Therapy. Background: I have worked with at-risk youth, college students, and folks from all walks of life in outpatient and community mental health settings. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Music and Theater, and a Master’s in Counseling Psychology with a Concentration in Trauma and Abuse from the Seattle School (2023). Outside of therapy, I enjoy lots of things, including yoga, performing arts, poetry, and being outside!

My name is Kaylee Van Gent, I am a Licensed Associate Professional Counselor (LAPC) providing psychotherapy services virtually in Pennsylvania. I have over 4 years of clinical experience across outpatient, residential, and school-based settings. In my clinical work, I often partner with clients experiencing anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), depression, trauma, and identity and adjustment issues. While I see many different clients, I specialize in working with LGBTQ+ clients, those who are navigating complex trauma, and those who have experienced religious/spiritual abuse or manipulation. I work with older adolescents, adults, and older adults. Therapy with me is grounded in deep empathy, creativity, curiosity, and a belief that meaningful change happens through safe, collaborative relationships. My goal is to help clients build insight, develop effective coping strategies, and move toward meaningful, values-aligned change. Alongside my clinical work, I am also a doctoral student in the Counselor Education and Supervision program at Pennsylvania State University where I am pursuing research interests of social justice and systemic change in counseling and religious/spiritual abuse. Through teaching, research, and practice, I value providing therapy that is affirming, trauma-informed, and responsive to each client’s unique culture, context, and experiences. Outside of work, I am a curious, playful, and nature-loving person. I love hiking with my partner, reading, and having a good laugh.

I love working with people of all ages who are seeking to understand themselves and other significant people in their lives! It is my joy to help my clients find peace and make meaning of both the usual challenges in life and the events that threaten to rob us of hope. My work life before becoming a therapist in 1997 included working in child welfare, teaching in China, and volunteering in religious activities. As a therapist my training and experience have been focused on themes of attachment, relationships, grief, loss, trauma, and spirituality. If you are wondering who I am as a person, I am a spouse, mother of four grown children, "Mimi" to five grandchildren, and oldest sibling in a large tribe. When not working I love to read, make quilts, play board games, cook and just spend time with the people I love.

At CenteredMind Online, I specialize in working with students who are feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or emotionally drained, and are ready to feel more balanced and in control of their lives. Many of the clients I work with are juggling academic pressures, relationships, and personal expectations, often while hiding how stressed or stuck they feel. On the outside, they may seem high-functioning, but internally they’re quietly struggling with anxiety, depression, ADHD, or sleep issues. If you’ve been finding it harder to focus, stay motivated, or feel rested, no matter how hard you try, you’re not alone, and you don’t have to figure it out on your own. That’s where I come in. I provide a calm, nonjudgmental space where you can feel heard and understood, and your mental health is finally a priority. Whether you’re struggling with anxiety, panic attacks, depression, or simply feeling unmotivated or disconnected, we’ll work together to find a clear path forward. My approach is compassionate, and focused on helping you feel more grounded, and more like yourself again. I offer both medication management and supportive therapy, tailored to your individual needs. Together, we’ll look at what’s getting in your way and build a plan to help you move forward with solutions to help you feel more balanced and centered. CenteredMind Online is a fully virtual psychiatric practice, so you can meet with me from the comfort and privacy of your own space. I offer flexible scheduling, including evenings and weekends, to make care more accessible. No commuting. No waiting rooms. Just real support when you need it most. I view therapy as a deeply collaborative and relational process. Together, we will work to develop a deeper understanding of your experiences, patterns, and emotions—helping you build insight, create meaningful change, and foster personal growth. By gaining greater self-awareness, you can begin to navigate internal and relational challenges, explore the connections between your past and present, and move toward a more intentional and fulfilling future. My approach integrates a range of therapeutic modalities, with a strong foundation in psychodynamic and relational therapy. I am also extensively trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), which I use to support individuals in developing emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness. I strive to provide person-centered care within a safe, supportive, and empathetic environment. Our work together will center on understanding your experiences more fully and finding ways to respond to them with greater clarity and intention.

Everyone Copes Differently There is no one right way to cope with trauma, triggers, and other difficulties you’re struggling with. However, when your stress and anguish affect your relationships, work, education, self-confidence, or general ability to feel happy, there has to be another way. Wherever you are in your healing journey, your feelings are valid, and you deserve to be heard. But getting the help you need means more than talking to someone who looks great on paper. Finding a therapeutic strategy that works means connecting to a certified professional who understands what you’re going through, how your life is being impacted, and what it means to feel “normal” again. You are enough. My Wellness Center is here to help during your healing journey.
