Welcome! I work with people who may be struggling with a variety of different challenges from grieving the loss of a pet, struggling with thoughts of the future in a world that seems to be falling apart, and people struggling with gender identity and sexual orientation. I offer an LGBTQ and neurodivergent-affirming environment. While I pull from gold standard techniques such as EMDR, Brainspotting, ACT, DBT, and CBT-I to address a variety of issues and symptoms, I take a collaborative approach to tailor our work together to best fit your needs. I have over ten years of experience in the mental health field both as a researcher and as a psychotherapist. The first five years of my career was spent at the Montrose Center in Houston, Texas where I worked with the LGBTQ community as a psychotherapist and a case manager. This valuable experience urged me to take my career further by going into private practice where I am honored to work with members of the LGBTQ community as well as those outside it.

College can be a hard transition for some. Making new friends, trying to figure out what you want to study for a career or even navigating the college campus and system. This is also a time where you are leaving a known family system and trying on new thoughts and values. This can all lead to anxiety, depression or stress. I am here to help you navigate this journey with you. I want to give you a safe space to share your struggles, and explore tools that can help you through this time.
At Counseling Creatively we have a passion for providing therapy to teens, young adults, new moms & adults who struggle with life transitions, stress management, anxiety, depression, boundaries, & identity exploration which includes sense of purpose, career, self & gender. We offer clients space to be truly seen & heard just as they are; messy, creative, eager to take on life! My mission is to help my clients find balance in their lives, confidence in their abilities, and embrace the power of their creativity in order to find unique solutions to their struggles.
The transition from high school to college can be a struggle for many students, who may experience feelings of anxiety, boundaries, and guilt during this time. Anxiety can manifest itself in a variety of different ways, such as people-pleasing behaviors, fear, perfectionism, and a general feeling of dissatisfaction. College is about boundaries; learning when to say yes and when to say no to both internal and external pressures. Establishing boundaries is important for the well-being of college students so that they don’t feel overwhelmed with stress or anxiety during this time of transition. If you're feeling overwhelmed and uncertain about your next steps, our individual therapy services can help. We'll work with you to develop a plan that addresses the specific challenges you're facing, and provides you with the tools and support you need to succeed.
I absolutely love working with young adults. College comes with unique challenges such as navigating the academic, social, and personal challenges that come with this stage of life. Whether you're adjusting to a new environment, managing stress, dealing with relationship concerns, or simply trying to understand yourself better, counseling can provide clarity, support, and practical strategies for growth. It is a confidential, judgement-free space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings, learn healthy coping skills, and build resilience.

Navigating this thing called life can be tricky, especially with the challenges we are currently facing! I am pleased to help you discover what it takes to make you feel whole. Together, we will create realistic goals that will jump start your treatment in an environment where I encourage you to be yourself. Your journey to a better you begins here!
Others may think you have it together, but on the inside, you’re falling apart. It feels like you can’t keep up with life’s changes, but it’s so hard to ask for help! Life feels out of control, causing you to feel lost, overwhelmed, unfulfilled, and stuck. You are not alone! I work with teens and adults struggling with anxiety, depression, and chronic illnesses. My own experiences with chronic illnesses and the physical and mental challenges they bring have greatly directed my therapeutic practices. I believe our thinking patterns and the way we interpret the world, influence our behaviors and keep us stuck! By adjusting these patterns we can begin to change behaviors and have a different outcome.
Trauma, Relationships, and Family Patterns — Helping You Build Healthier Connections If you’re feeling overwhelmed by past experiences, stuck in relationship patterns, or struggling with communication and connection, you’re not alone. I work with individuals, couples, and families who are navigating trauma, family-of-origin challenges, communication difficulties, cultural differences, and life transitions—and who are ready to better understand themselves and create meaningful change. As a practicum therapist in the Marriage and Family Therapy program at Abilene Christian University, I am supervised by Julia Wesley, LMFT-S, and provide therapy in the Frisco and Prosper areas. In our work together, you can expect a supportive, nonjudgmental space where we focus on understanding patterns—how you communicate, how your family-of-origin experiences shape your relationships, and how past experiences may still be impacting you today. I help clients build stronger communication skills, navigate conflict more effectively, and develop healthier, more fulfilling relationships. I am especially passionate about working with those impacted by trauma and helping clients make sense of how their past connects to their present. My approach is grounded in family systems and relational therapy, meaning we look at how your relationships, environment, and experiences all interact. Rather than focusing only on symptoms, we work to understand the bigger picture and create lasting change in the patterns that matter most to you. I strive to provide a culturally sensitive and inclusive space, and I am committed to supporting clients from diverse backgrounds, including those within the LGBTQ+ community. Before entering the therapy field, I worked in leadership and people management, where I developed strong skills in communication, conflict resolution, and supporting individuals through challenges. I bring that real-world experience into the therapy room to help clients apply practical tools in their daily lives. I am also passionate about supporting diverse and underserved communities. My work as a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Ambassador and ADHD advocate reflects my commitment to creating an inclusive, culturally aware space where clients feel seen, respected, and understood. Reaching out for support can feel like a big step, but you don’t have to do it alone. If you’re ready to begin your healing journey or want to see if we’re a good fit, I invite you to connect.
I am currently a graduate student at Midwestern State University. Site Supervisor: JacQue' Timberlake and University Supervisor: Dr. Tara Fox Are you feeling overwhelmed or struggling with difficult emotions? Hello, my name is Kristen Cooper MacDiarmid. I am a licensed professional counselor that works with children, adolescents, and adults. I specialize in anxiety and mood disorders, but I also have extensive experience with school and behavioral issues. In this time of turmoil and change, it is more important than ever to take care of our mental health while maintaining our physical health and well being; therefore, I am now offering telehealth appointments for both play and talk therapy. I believe that everyone has the strength and ability to succeed deep within themselves, even if you can’t see it because of your current situation or mindset. I want to help you find that inner ability, pull from that innate strength, and learn the techniques that will help bring out the best you have within you. Whether through play therapy as a child or talk therapy as an adult, I can help you find techniques that will work for you to help you manage the daily stressors of life, make radical life changes, or to work through trauma. I can work with you to find ways to reframe your thinking and provide noticeable change and help facilitate peace in your life.
The clients I see are sometimes in college experiencing feelings of overwhelm or feeling low. These clients describe their challenges as feeling, “como con miedo,” and also, “no se que tengo.” Other clients I see are future counselors who are at the beginning of their careers and facing imposter syndrome ( “I must’ve slipped through the cracks to get to where I am now”), self-criticism (“Why can’t I get my life together!"), or burnout (feeling fatigued and like you can never catch up). These clients are usually part of activist movements or workplaces and I believe in helping the healers that are out in the world making a positive impact on society. I benefited greatly from my own experiences with counseling when I was in grad school (still do) and I hope to provide the same non-judgmental opportunities to cry or laugh or both to future clients. In my work I value humility, curiosity, self-compassion and humor. I believe these are needed to provide authenticity and support at a time when people starting out in their fields of work are taking in new information that is stretching/challenging perspectives and care for the self is a necessity to continue doing challenging work.
