I provide individual therapy to young adults and adults experiencing a range of concerns including substance use, trauma, life transitions, and the unique stressors men face. I approach counseling from the perspective that you already have strengths and abilities that you can use to become your strongest self. Together, we find those strengths and put them to work towards your goals. As part of this I often use Cognitive Behavioral therapy, a technique that looks at the relationship between your thoughts, feelings and behaviors. It’s been shown to be incredibly effective at helping people make lasting changes in their lives. I am a Master Addiction Counselor and trained in E.M.D.R., a technique shown to be effective in treating trauma. It is also common that you may not have your finger on exactly what you hope to work on, yet you know you are seeking growth and change. If that’s the case, therapy can be a powerful tool to help you clarify what you want and how to best get it. If you are interested in learning more about how working together can help you reach your goals, contact me for a free consultation. Consultations are done by phone, take about 15 minutes and give us a chance to see if we would be a good fit to work together.
I have been influenced by many counseling theories but gravitate most strongly to those emphasizing a collaborative relationship where the client is viewed as the expert on their own life. I believe that human beings are always doing their best given the tools that they possess. I also believe that our society differentially imparts barriers to certain groups and that often these obstacles, rather than personal failure, stand in the way of our goals. Most importantly, I believe that the therapy relationship is a potential vehicle for growth and my most fundamental goal is to create a safe and nurturing environment. I am trained as a generalist and most often work with individuals dealing with depression, anxiety, relationship concerns, family issues, grief, and trauma. I am particularly interested in working with oppressed groups, including women, ethnic minorities, and gay, lesbian, and bisexual individuals. I use a variety of approaches in therapy. Compassionate listening with a holistic focus is always the foundation. At times I also draw from neuroscience, mind body techniques, hypnotherapy, Rapid Resolution Therapy, Emotional Freedom Technique, and Internal Family Systems among others.
As a partner in your growth, I acknowledge and accept that each person is unique, and has his/her own story. My range of expertise, including mindfulness practices, trauma recovery, and men’s health, are all tailored to meet your specific needs and reach your goals. Whether you’re experiencing stress from day-to-day, anxiety, trauma, anger, or relationship challenges, I offer a safe, judgment-free space to help you better navigate those obstacles by building upon the strengths you already have, developing new tools, and shifting focus to the present, in order to foster more effective and sustainable growth.
I enjoy working with youth and young adults who are experiencing issues with perfectionism, hypersensitivity, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, and/or disordered eating. At the core of my approach is a commitment to the principles of attachment-based and person-centered therapy. Through this methodology, we can facilitate positive growth and personal development, guiding clients on a path toward healing and self-discovery.
I have advocated for and worked with youth and young adults for several years. I have experience in stress management, anxiety, depression, social skill development and college and career planning. With experience in both therapeutic and educational settings, I work with students, families, and adults to create a safe, supportive environment where they can thrive. I am also a Certified School Counselor and Nationally Certified Counselor who provides both individual and group counseling services. Using an integrative and solution-focused approach, I help individuals build resilience, develop effective coping strategies, and work towards meaningful change. I am passionate about helping young adults process their identity and emotions during life transitions and as they come into who they are. Clients leaving high school, graduating college, entering marriage or their first jobs often find that they are reevaluating what their values are and how their early childhood experiences have affected them. I enjoy working with clients as they walk through these parts of their story and come to understand themselves better.
