I believe it is important to help each client feel comfortable, valued, and respected during the therapeutic process. My approach focuses on partnering with you to find healing, hope and meaning in your life. Sometimes that means working to understand present difficulties in light of past experiences; sometimes it means focusing on learning new ways to effectively cope with unplanned life challenges. I have experience in working with individuals focusing on a variety of issues including anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, grief and loss, substance abuse, strengthening relationships, improving communication, pregnancy loss, post-abortive issues, and spiritual concerns. Perhaps you are feeling: -not good enough -disconnected and alone -uncontrollable worry -stressed, easily irritable, angry, and frustrated -unable to focus and distracted -challenged by making life and behavioral changes Our work together can help you feel more in control, identify effective coping skills, manage even your most difficult feelings, understand the relationship between thoughts, feelings and behaviors, feel connected both to self and those closest to you, and find healing and meaning in your life. Please contact me today to get started or with any question you may have. Background and Education I earned a bachelors degree from Grand Valley State University and a Masters degree in Counseling from Cornerstone University’s Grand Rapids Theological Seminary. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Michigan. Prior to starting Persenaire Counseling Services, LLC, I worked for a non-profit agency in Grand Rapids as part of a treatment team in an adolescent substance abuse program. I am continually working to further my education in providing optimal care. I am focused on the perspective of holistic care; the mind, body and spirit, when learning and investigating evidence based interventions of mental health disorders.

Why does insight alone, not lead to congruence between what you want and what you do? This is a question we would explore together. My areas of interest and experience include anxiety and depression, relationship difficulties, behavioral change through healthy habits, mindfulness, and exploring interpersonal struggles. We can focus on what resonates with you, work within any of life's domains where we believe change is possible, and go inward with mindfulness to sit with the parts of our realities that are beyond our control. Focusing on what we can control, however, is often the way forward.

Are you going through a significant life event or change? Or are you ready to work through past distressing memories or traumatic events? Embarking on the therapeutic journey takes courage, as well as finding the right therapist. I specialize in helping those going through significant life events and discernment, individuals who experience depression, anxiety, grief, PTSD, as well as those who identify as LGBTQIA. I prefer to view therapeutic foci through an Adaptive Information Processing Model, rather than through a pathological lens. So many presenting symptoms are actually trauma-related, and that is where healing can start. What if your brain could heal itself? I offer Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), which can be a powerful treatment for PTSD, anxiety, grief, performance improvement, depression and many other conditions. I am trained in the EMDR DeTUR protocol for urge reduction as well (focusing on addictions or other compulsive behaviors). In an effort to accommodate busy schedules, I offer evening and weekend appointments. Together, we will collaborate on goals and a plan while building upon your strengths. I look forward to hearing from you! If interested in EMDR therapy and curious about it, please see www.emdria.org for further information.

I welcome all who seek to understand their life's journey and the struggle they may be currently facing. I value each person and their story and aim to give support, encouragement and guidance as we work together. One of the main ways I have helped others is through brain spotting, which is a very gentle approach to treating trauma and releasing stress stored in the limbic system. Feel free to reach out to me if I can answer questions to help you find the best fit for counseling.

I enjoy working with clients who are seeking support through life’s challenges, particularly women navigating transitions such as pregnancy, postpartum, infertility, and perinatal loss. I also work with individuals facing depression, anxiety, grief, addiction, and relationship difficulties. Clients who benefit most from my approach are open to exploring their experiences, learning new coping strategies, and fostering personal growth. I provide a compassionate, client-centered space, integrating evidence-based techniques to support healing and resilience. Beyond perinatal mental health, I have extensive experience in helping clients understand and manage mental health conditions while also educating their loved ones to foster supportive relationships. My practice also focuses on effective communication, relationship dynamics, grief and loss, and addiction recovery. My goal is to create a supportive, empowering environment where clients can build resilience, gain insight, and develop practical skills. If you're seeking a compassionate, knowledgeable therapist to support you through life's challenges, I invite you to reach out and begin your journey toward healing and growth. I am a part of a group practice that is 100% women owned and operated called The Flourishing Collective. We value relationships and have a commitment to our own therapy and healing work. We believe this makes us better therapists. We value therapy and consultation. We do not ask our clients to do anything that we are not willing to do ourselves. Prior to Covid-19 I began working with telehealth and moved towards seeing everyone from their own home to remove the barrier of the commute. Additionally I see people living in rural areas for specific needs such as gender dysphoria. My experience includes addressing trauma/PTSD, substance use/abuse and recovery, anxiety, depression, transgender and gender dysphoria, and LGBTQ+ issues for adolescents and adults as an ally. You can easily request and schedule our first appointment or phone consultation by reaching out today - preferably by email.

I believe we don’t have to be defined by our past, but much of our past may be constraining us from who we can and want to be. You only know what you know, and allowing yourself the space, time, and freedom to redefine what that means for you can help you live a life you are meant, deserve, and worth living. I would be honored to be invited into that space with you.
