We believe in therapy that empowers individuals to make meaningful changes and lead fulfilling lives. City Center Psychotherapy is a group private practice in Midtown, New York City founded by Dr. Andrew B. Schmidt, PhD, LCSW-R , Professor and Director of New York University’s Post-Masters CBT Certificate Program. Dr. Schmidt leads a team of highly skilled clinicians who specialize in the treatment of OCD, Anxiety, Depression, and Trauma, in addition to their own unique areas of expertise. I offer a compassionate and supportive therapeutic space where clients can safely explore all aspects of themselves. While healing is ultimately a personal process, working with an attuned and understanding therapist can provide the containment and trust needed for meaningful change. I support individuals seeking therapy for emotional healing, self-understanding, and personal growth, helping clients gently engage with experiences that may feel difficult to face alone. My integrative approach draws on psychoanalytic psychotherapy, alongside somatic and mindfulness-based practices. I support individuals who may feel overwhelmed, emotionally stuck, or disconnected from themselves or others. I work with clients experiencing anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, cultural identity challenges, life transitions, and the lasting impact of past experiences. I believe meaningful therapy emerges through a strong therapeutic relationship grounded in trust, respect, and genuine curiosity. My work supports clients in moving beyond survival patterns toward greater emotional freedom, resilience, and a more connected way of living.
Past experiences may be affecting how you see yourself, relate to others, or move through the world. Healing is possible. Many come to therapy feeling weighed down by trauma, difficult relationships, low self-esteem, or unresolved childhood experiences. You may be functioning on the outside while feeling stuck, disconnected, or unsure of yourself on the inside. Many of the adults I work with struggle with trusting themselves or others, setting boundaries, or feeling worthy of care and connection. Therapy can help you build insight, strengthen your sense of self, and develop healthier, more fulfilling relationships. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) who works with people seeking deeper understanding, healing, and meaningful change. My approach is warm, exploratory, and open, with an emphasis on creating a space where you feel safe enough to be honest and work at your own pace. My style is collaborative and nonjudgmental, grounded in respect. Beginning therapy takes courage. If you’re ready to explore your experiences in a supportive and compassionate environment, I invite you to reach out.
Imagine a world where you don’t lie in bed for hours replaying every situation in your head staying up way too late and ruining the next day. Instead, you fall asleep peacefully and can make major decisions without it fully consuming your night, sleep and over all day to day. Inside, there’s a voice that questions your worth, filling you with doubt—but you're ready to rise above it. You're tired of holding back, and deep down, you know you're meant for more—more confidence, more peace, and deeper, more fulfilling connections. I get it! I create a space in which you will feel relaxed while also allowing for you to feel understood. I will not just sit and nod, I will ask you questions, guide you and challenge you. I enjoy blending CBT and psychodynamic perspectives to ensure the most meaningful healing process. You deserve someone who is competent and caring. Let's connect!

You may be entering a new stage in your life, whether it is heading to college and moving out of your childhood home, starting your career, choosing to seek graduate or advanced training, or becoming serious in a committed relationship and starting your own family. You know what you want to achieve, but need additional support in navigating the stresses of setting off on this new path. Or maybe you want help in redefining the roles your family members and loved ones have in your life as you walk towards adulthood in a chaotic world. Maybe you have started your own family and made the decision to become a parent. You may want to parent differently than your parents, but are unsure how. You might be experiencing anxiety around being responsible for a vulnerable new human being. Children can be mirrors, reflecting our own experiences of childhood back onto us. Perhaps past painful experiences of not having your own needs met in childhood are bubbling up and you want to have a safe space to process and explore those experiences. Making lasting change can be difficult for most, and choosing therapy is the first step on the path towards positive growth and change.
I am a psychotherapist specializing in individual and couples’ therapy and maintain a full-time private practice in the financial district of Manhattan. After receiving my masters in mental health counseling from CUNY Brooklyn College I continued my training at The Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy (ICP) focusing on psychoanalytic theory and practice. I am currently working as a high-risk screener as well as a therapist for the LGBTQ+ affirmative treatment division within ICP. In addition to private practice work, I am conducting research identifying predictive factors for people leaving Orthodox Judaism and have presented at conferences on the topic of disaffiliation within Orthodox Judaism. I am currently pursuing my PhD at Adelphi University School of Social Work. My approach to therapy is primarily psychodynamic in nature. In my practice I take the time to listen closely to your needs and tailor our sessions to meet you where you currently are. Through our work together we will move towards greater understanding of your past and its impact on your life today, this depth of work allows for greater self acceptance and more control over the decisions you make in your life. Our sessions will be spent working to increase your self awareness while strengthening your capacity to fully engage with the world. Together we will expand your window of tolerance by unpacking the feelings and thoughts that bring you discomfort, leading to a more authentic and comprehensive experience of yourself.
Inclusive Psychotherapy in New York for Adolescents, Adults, and Couples/Relationships You worry all the time about being judged by other people. You feel disconnected from your body and, at the same time, feel like it’s all you think about. You’re on edge all day and sometimes feel like you may be having a heart attack. You don’t feel like you fit in anywhere. You’ve been made fun of for many different parts of who you are. You’ve been called weird or misunderstood at work, in your family, and even in some of your dating relationships. You’ve struggled to find someone who feels like a good fit romantically, and you’re worried there’s something wrong with you. From the start, we want you to know that at Meadow Therapy, we believe you have inherent worth simply by being born. Throughout your life, you’ve learned tools for survival that may no longer feel like they serve you. We can help you shift those survival skills using Mind to Body Psychotherapy. Mind to Body Psychotherapy is a mix of body-based work, exploration of childhood hurts, the neuroscience of emotions/emotional regulation, and other concrete coping skills, that will help you tap into your inner resources. I provide a collaborative, affirming approach to therapy that combines mindfulness, skill-building, and empathetic exploration, drawing on my training in evidence-based treatments such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). In our work together, we will challenge what isn’t working in your life, while celebrating and building upon your existing strengths. My areas of specialty include life transitions (e.g. moving, starting a new job or school, relationship beginnings or endings), anxiety and worry, depression, LGBTQIA+ issues, identity concerns, and trauma.
