Life can often feel overwhelming and reaching out for support and prioritizing self-care can feel difficult. I am a board-certified child, adolescent, and adult psychiatrist, currently practicing and licensed in New York and California. I have a virtual private practice. I am also an attending child and adolescent psychiatrist/Clinical Assistant Professor at New York University Grossman School of Medicine, Medical Director of the Mental Health Team at the Nicholas Scoppetta Children's Center, and the Medical Director of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health at Association for Children's Services. I completed my child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco. I was born and raised in New York City, where I also completed my medical education at Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine and my adult psychiatry residency at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. I enjoy working with each individual to find out what the needs are. No family, child, adolescent, or adult are the same, and everyone exists within a system. It is important to see a person as a whole, including the family they come from, school, job, community, and much more, in order to treat properly. My approach, when treating a child or adolescent, is to consider the community they are in, come from an attachment-based lens, and meet the youth where they are. Involvement of the parents will be important, especially depending on the age of the youth. My approach, when treating an adult, is to meet that adult where they are, understand their unique situation and treat accordingly. Personally, and professionally, I am interested in attachment theory and mind-body connection. I have received training in mindfulness-based stress reduction, cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, family therapy, parent management training, motivational interviewing, and psychodynamic psychotherapy. My main areas of focus: anxiety disorders, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, ADHD, trauma, behavioral issues, disruptive mood dysregulation disorder (DMDD), self-esteem, family, parenting, interpersonal dynamics, and school issues. However, each person is unique, so I am happy to speak to anyone and see if we are a good fit.
My experience as a therapist includes working at the NYU Counseling Services for many years. I have a deep understanding of the challenges both undergraduate and graduate students face with the changes, separations and transitions involved in becoming independent adults. It is a time filled with excitement as well as stress and worries about the future. The internal and external pressures, expectations from family and demands of the academic world can feel overwhelming at times. For graduate and doctoral students, there are the stressors of completing programs, dissertations and the challenges of seeking employment. Students may also be struggling with feeling alone, isolated, anxious, depressed, dealing with body image self-esteem and sexuality issues as well as social pressures around alcohol and other substances. Therapy can help in navigating these challenges, offer insight and reduce stress. I am a compassionate, extensively trained and interactive therapist. Together, we can work to develop strategies, address negative patterns of thought and behaviors, manage stress and help you deal with relationships more effectively. I am also trained and certified in clinical hypnosis which can be very useful in managing the physical and psychological symptoms of stress and anxiety including phobias, GI issues such as IBS as well as reducing symptoms of depression while increasing self-confidence and success.
As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) I begin each therapeutic connection with getting to know you and the areas of your life, and together we will conceptualize your life through a biopsychosocial-spiritual lens and how these elements interact with each other and affect your overall wellbeing. I use a personal style that blends humor, creativity, sensitivity, sensibility, and evidence-based short term, measureable, attainable, realistic, and timely (SMART) strategies to help you grow in your areas of life and relationships and achieve your identified goals. I have specialized skills in play therapy modalities, trauma counseling, and medical family therapy. I look forward to meeting you and assisting you toward achieving your goals! ***Please leave a voicemail message when calling; calls without messages will not be answered to maintain confidentiality.

Recognizing this, I am deeply committed to empathizing with my clients and understanding their backgrounds to provide the most effective support. My name is Rhea and I am a therapist in-training at Sol Health. I am a second-year Mental Health Counseling student at Fordham University, with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Newcastle University, U.K. My journey into counseling has been profoundly shaped by my experiences as a South-Asian immigrant, inspiring my passion towards understanding each client’s identity and how it affects their mental health. Dealing with mental health concerns can feel isolating and overwhelming. That's why I prioritize creating a safe, non-judgmental space where you can be your authentic self and feel truly heard. Building a strong therapeutic relationship is at the core of my practice. I strive to be your ally, empowering you to explore your thoughts and emotions freely, without the burden of putting on a facade. My approach integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Person-Centered Therapy, and Mindfulness-Based techniques, while also incorporating spirituality into your healing journey when appropriate. Utilizing an intersectional framework, I address the diverse identities and experiences that shape your mental health. I believe therapy is a collaborative process, where your autonomy is respected, and you actively participate in your path to healing. Together, we will uncover insights and develop strategies tailored to your unique needs and goals. My focus areas include, but are not limited to, addressing issues related to racism, college adjustment, transitional challenges, and the experiences of international students. I also support clients dealing with stress, anxiety, depression, LGBTQIA+ concerns, and relationship and family issues. We might be a good match if you're a young adult experiencing relationship or confidence issues that leave you feeling like you're not enough. Maybe you've been told to "stop overthinking", or you're constantly doubting yourself and comparing your accomplishments to everyone around you. Our work together will help you heal from the past, feel more confident, set boundaries, build meaningful relationships & friendships, and become more of the person you truly want to be. I specialize in performance goals (academic or sport), self-esteem & confidence, and ADHD. I offer online therapy for New York state residents. As a modern therapist and registered nurse, my approach is holistic, warm, motivating & collaborative. I go beyond surface-level advice like, "just be yourself" or "don't worry". I focus on creating a space where you feel understood, encouraged, and motivated. My hope is that you leave sessions feeling like you're growing, evolving, and becoming your best self.
Rise to change your story is a mental health practice based in New York City which provides mental health services to individuals, couples and families struggling in their relationships with themselves, others and/or with money/spending. Rise to change your story emerged from our belief, that we make meaning of our life, victories and struggles through the stories we live out, the stories we internalize about ourselves and the ones we share when we interact with others. Our life stories emerge, are shaped (and also limited) by our social, cultural, familiar and interpersonal contexts. We all learn the standards by which we measure ourselves and each other through the stories we see and hear, and by the stories we tell each other. We believe that during difficult times in life, we tend to be more vulnerable and we have a sense of being stuck in stories that usually restrict the possibilities we perceive for a better life. There is nothing wrong with us for that. Sometimes we manage to figure things on our own but sometimes we don’t. It happens. We cannot possibly have all the solutions for all the challenges we encounter, and therapy is one way to figure things out in the context of a supportive environment where you can further explore different options that you may have not considered. Our work is based on helping people explore and experience some alternative story lines that may already exist in their lives or may have existed, but have been forgotten or overshadowed. In our practice our mission is to support you to rise and change your story. A story with themes and plots that are more satisfying, more fulfilling, more empowering and more aligned with what matters the most to you. We believe such stories are always there if we look for them. We believe TODAY IS THE DAY TO RISE AND CHANGE YOUR STORY.
