Therapists for college students near New York, NY
We offer trauma-focused strengths-based therapy to individuals, caregivers, and families. When working with children, families will be engaged in play therapy sessions to encourage bonding, communication, and growth. With adolescents and adults, using CBT techniques, we will focus on replacing negative thinking with positive self-talk and adapting positive coping mechanisms. Through Somatic Experiencing techniques, we can tap into physical and emotional symptoms associated with trauma -- locked into the body -- and guide you into identifying and utilizing the innate healing capacity in your body.
Are you struggling to manage your emotions and navigate relationships? Are you stuck in a cycle of anxiety that you can't seem to escape? Do you have difficulty setting boundaries and find yourself frequently putting your needs aside for others? We will work together to help you better understand your emotions and behaviors. Through this work, you will learn coping skills to utilize during the stressful moments of life. My areas of focus in practice include anxiety, perfectionism, depression, ADHD, OCD, relationship issues and chronic health issues.

My Approach Transitions in our lives can bring up a lot of different emotions. Some of these emotions can be conflicting if the transition “should” be happy. My work focuses on individuals and couples as they navigate through these transitions. There are ways to process it, work through it and allow you to show up authentically for yourself and your relationships. there are a number of credentials i could share about myself and ways you might decide if i'm the right therapist for you, but honestly, between you and me, what matters is that i love this work and i believe in this work. i feel deeply humbled to hold people's stories and hearts for a living. the trust that this work requires is no small thing, and i never take that lightly. in my clinical practice, i use theories rooted in an anti-racist, queer liberation, harm reduction, and body-neutral framework. i feel most drawn to this work through an attachment-focused analytical frame. we have all been harmed in relationships, and i believe our healing must also exist in relationships. i know we cannot look at one's personal frame without understanding the systemic and cultural impact that intersectionality has had on one's own experience. i have committed to my clinical work always evolving, and we will both teach each other what comes next. i can't promise a safe place, but i can promise an accountable one. i will create the container, i will show up for rupture, and together we will build a foundation of trust to help you heal, grow, challenge, and shift the things that brought you here. i received my master's in clinical social work from silberman school of social work at hunter college in new york city. after graduation, i worked in community mental health, supporting young mothers on their journey towards recovery from opioid-based addictions. i then joined a group practice where i've worked for many years, supporting folks to heal complicated relationships with food, their bodies, their boundaries, their gender, and their sexuality. i believe i am a partner in this work with you, and as people change, heal, and move forward in their lives, i feel profoundly impacted to bear witness and be a part of your story. it is miraculous. finding the right therapist is a process: trust yourself, explore, ask hard questions. we work for you and with you. i am a white, queer, abolitionist, non-binary, dyslexic, jewish, body-liberatory therapist, and most importantly, a client. the only thing i ask of the folks i work with is a commitment to show up, and the rest we will figure out together.

In summary, I can help you with: 1) Relationship difficulties 2) Managing important life transitions 3) Minimizing your anxiety and depression 4) Managing stress Developing a fresh perspective on a recent or recurring problem is key to minimizing or eliminating it. I believe that being in therapy is about creating space for positive change. When we can slow down and make room for ourselves, we can grow and create lasting adjustments that make our lives more balanced and enjoyable. I work collaboratively with clients, providing a safe and non-judgmental space to explore issues, problem solve, navigate life transitions, develop new and creative coping skills, and strengthen one’s relationship with themselves and with others. I specialize in helping with stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, and addiction recovery. I also work extensively with artists of all kinds who are experiencing creative blocks or stagnation in their art/creative practices and life. Art therapy is a form of psychotherapy that uses art materials and the creative process to help people express, process, and integrate their thoughts, feelings, and emotions. Art therapy is for everyone, not just people who identify as artists or have experience with the visual arts. Clients see me for talk therapy and or art therapy. All sessions are tailored to the preferences and goals of my clients. My approach is holistic and person-center, integrating traditional talk therapies and art therapy with mindfulness/body-based practices. I am a patient and compassionate therapist, who values humor and direct communication, dedicated to supporting my clients in their healing process and personal growth, enacting the changes they desire to see within themselves.

Those who seek my services are often looking to quiet their anxious minds, set boundaries in their relationships, and feel more confident on their life path. Trying to balance personal relationships with career/school, all while trying to convince everyone that you're in control and that you know what you're doing is exhausting. Life doesn't have to feel this hard! Our work together will involve identifying and removing barriers to your ideal life. Often that means learning to quiet the anxious voice inside your mind, shifting perspective, and unlearning the behaviors which have kept you stuck for so long. There’s no “one-size-fits-all” strategy. That is why I take the time to get to know you, see issues through your perspective, and create an individualized plan to help you reach your goals.
Hi, I'm Kayla! My goal as a therapist is to guide my clients to learn various coping strategies to help them help themselves. I assist clients with building their toolkit to give them the necessary skills to help them better manage stress. I have experience helping children, teens and families through all different stages of life. As a part of the Insightful Paths Team, I am fully licensed in New York and able to serve any areas of NY by offering tele-health sessions. My approach to therapy is built around what works best for the client. I've worked with various ages in one-on-one or family sessions with focuses ranging from depression, anxiety, autism, ADHD, RAD (reactive attachment disorder), and ODD (oppositional defiant disorder). The therapeutic interventions I use are rooted in CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy), DBT (dialectical behavior therapy), and art therapy. While some clients prefer art/games, others may prefer strictly talk-based interventions; while others may prefer a combination. I look forward to working together so we can reach your individual or family goals!
